Heya

Well we are planning on getting an English Springer Spaniel Puppy sometime soon, but after reading alot of posts and people who have had "puppy blues" I'm terrified I will do something wrong while we are raising the puppy. After getting all my pets except for my dog, I had serious blues, and regretted getting them but I have alway got over it. As I'm only 14 and have never raised a pup before, I am scared it won't be housebroken by the time it's an adult, or will turn out aggresive or chew up all the furniture.

We already have a dog, so I'm also scared they won't get along and she will be jealous. Would a breeder let me take her to meet the pup before we take it home? She is fully vaccinated and everything.

I don't know what to do. I want another dog more than anything, but I'm terrified it will go wrong and I'll regret it later.

I would think that a breeder would let you bring your dog to meet it....Trust me alot of people here have had "puppy blues" but we have all managed to look back and say that it was worth it....

As long as you are commited to continuely training and raising your pup throughout its life, everything should be OK....

OMG, I love english springer spaniels. My first dog was an English Springer Spaniel named Cisco, and he was so amazing. We got him from the pound when i was 7 (he was about 8 months old) and we had him up until the spring semester of my freshman year in college. Like Jess2416 says, bringing up a puppy is a lot of work (I have my hands full with a 7 month old Lab), but if you stick with it, you're gonna end up with such a wonderful friend. You have already shown that you are gonna be a great owner/trainer because you're asking questions before you get the dog. You have to start learning sometime, right? Plus, I've only been a member of this forum for a couple days and I can already see that it is full of friendly, helpful people who care about dogs and will help you with any questions you may have along the way. Enjoy your new puppy!!!

Hey there. I have a Springer pup right now. She's 7 months old now but we brought her home when she was only 9 weeks old. Gosh-- she was so tiny back then. :p I also raised a springer pup when I was in high school- my parents still have her ; she's 13 now.

In my opinion, Springers are THE BEST dogs. They are cuddly but at the same time very athletic. It's a great mix. However, having a pup (any kind of pup) is a HUGE responsibilty. And in my experience, Springers have their own set of special needs when they are pups. I read a lot this time to prepare for my Charly (espeically house training). However, with both pups (no matter how diligent I was) it took over 7 months to get them to ask to go to the bathroom OUTSIDE. And we STILL have occational "accidents". I've talked to others that have really stuggled with house breaking their Springer too. Also, they have a TON of energy. I used to bring mine to the puppy dog-park every day. Now, we're down to 3 times a week. But she's got so much energy- and you've got to be prepared for it.

I wouldn't trade Charly or Tova in for the world- but I'm not going to say raising Springer pups was a walk in the park. Be prepared to at times be very frustrated and at others head over heels in love. :)

There arn't any Welsh Springer Spaniel breeders near us!

Ok, I'm a bit worried by the 7 months to housetrain! Did you crate train? How about other training in general?
