i just got a new puppy guys!! my mom surprised me with it.. u remember when i said i was getting one in an. it was bcuz the one i was spose to b gtting around this time was sold.. well turns out that it was sold to my mom lol.. its a boy hes 8 wks. and hes a black and tan min pin.. umm.. the breeder set food can u guys tell me if purina pro plan puppy food is a good puppt food.. if so how long should i keep him on it..?? and my uncle is takingme to tha pet store tommoro.. can u guys give a list of things i should first get.. oh and were rly not sure what to call him yet lol.. ne ideas?? thnx.. rayonmd

Nothing by Purina is good food anymore. There are lots of good kibbles available: we feed Innova, Wellness is okay, California Natural, Flint River, Eagle Packs have a good reputation. Check out the nutrition information at www.greatdanelady.com . She's got a good list of foods to choose from, and she really knows what she's talking about. Whatever you do, don't get tricked into spending premium prices for Eukanuba, Iams or Science Diet. Check for two things in particular on the label: that the food is organic - NOT all natural (not the same thing at all), and that the ingredients are human grade. If you don't see those two things, don't be fooled into buying it.

When you get to know him a little better you'll get a good idea for just the right name.

And be sure to post lots of photos in the Dog Pictures! We'll be waiting to here all about your first days with him, too.

u guys i feel so bad bcz hes whining in his crate right now (first nite).. and i cant go get him but ne way.. when can i begin to housetrain him and obiedience train him?? he is 8 wks old.. can i start with small stuff now.. and i do kno he will not be fully house broken until 6 months or later.. thnx..

what are the 3 good times i should do feeding.. how often does a young puppy have to go to the bathroom.. i am trying to begin some type of schedule early.. oh yeah n you guys opinions do those urination attraction sprays work?? thnx

oh and we named him chase.. we just got back from the pet store.. he got licked by a huge great dane lol.. ill have pics soon!!

oh and i forgot to ask.. should water be kept in the crate of a 8 week old puppy.. bcuz i read in some places that it should and in others that it shouldnt.. and i kno since hes only 8wks he will go in his crate.. so should i limit his space and wake up every 2 -3 hrs. at nite to let him go?? or what?? thnx.. and sorry i probably wouldnt have asked all these questions before its just bcuz he was a surprise and i wasnt prepared.. thnx again

Getting licked by the great dane. Hehe that must have been funny! Congratulations on your new puppy! Don't leave water in the crate. I was told by the trainer that puppies only need water after they eat or play. Take him outside on a leash to potty every time you let him out of the crate. I wouldn't wake him up to go during the night but if it's been a while since he went out and you are going to bed, then maybe i'd wake him up but other that he may wine or bark to let you know he has to go out. Although if he doesn't bark or wine then I guess maybe you should get up during the night and take him out. Good luck!
