My boyfriend has a 7 year old Jack Russell (Winston). About 8 months ago, Winston was on my lap for a while - nothing exciting happening and he wanted on my lap (I mention this so people don't think I picked him up and made him sit on my lap) - Winston went into the kitchen and I looked down to see he had pee'd on my lap. We were at my boyfriends house so he was in familiar territory...

Fast forward to yesterday. We were at my boyfriends cousin's backyard at a BBQ. There is another dog (a terrier but not a jack) and they got along really well - I think Winston had met this dog before. Anyways, nothing exciting going on...just 10 people sitting around chatting in the backyard. Winston sat on my boyfriends lap for a few seconds and then moved to my lap. My boyfriend looked down and saw Winston had pee'd in his lap...we teased my boyfriend for a few minutes and then Winston jumped off my lap and we realized he had pee'd on my lap too.

Winston just had his annual vet checkup - mind you no stool sample was analized...has anyone else had this problem before? Is it a jack russell thing? Could it be a parasite? Is it an emotional thing? Any advice/help would really be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

That's weird... has he had any other accidents not on people's laps? I mean for a JRT he is not that old so I don't know why he would be unable to hold it any longer at this point, plus it is only in people's laps. that's really puzzling, does he like empty his bladder or is it just a little bit? you could get him those belly bands for now but it sorta worries me, did you mention it to the vet when you went?

No other incidents on anyone else's lap (that we know of). My boyfriend didn't mention anything to the vet a few weeks ago as he had pee'd on my lap like 8 months earlier and hadn't since (and he is on our laps a lot). He didn't empty his bladder...the pee circle was about the same size if you put your 2 thumbs together and your 2 index fingers (to form a circle). The circle was about the same size on both of our laps.

Could it be something he ate? My boyfriend feeds him a lot of table scraps. He was really thirsty approximately an hour earlier...to the point that my boyfriend went and filled the dog water bowl because he wanted more. Winston is 24lbs but all muscle...the vet said he has the physical body shape of an intact male (even though he was fixed as a puppy). He has not lost any weight...

I think if it was a parasite...would it not have gotten worse over time (instead of once very 8 months)? What about canine diabetes? But his eating and physical appearance have not changed in a long time.

What is a belly band?

I'm not really good with medical stuff if that is what is wrong. I'm sure you'll get some other people's opinions or give the vet a call. A belly band is like a diaper, it won't solve the problem but will help keep your laps clean if our are worried he will do it again.I'm not sure what the problem could be, sorry.
