On monday Joey started to scratch the fur off a couple spots on his shoulder and the spots started to weep, so on Tuesday I brought him into he vet. He gave us some antibiotic pills and told me to just keep an eye on the spots. He also took a skin scraping. Well, yesterday morning I opened Joey's crate and just about lost it when I saw that one of Joey's sores had gotten as big as his shoulder and large chunks of skin had fallen off. He started to cry out in pain and I just started balling. I grabbed him and took him straight to the vet forgetting that the vet office wasn't even open yet. Luckily a vet tech had gotten there early and she called the vet. She told me to leave him there and the vet would call me as soon as he could. I got to work late and kept my cell phone with me all day. The vet called me and told me that Joey was doing much better. They cleaned out the sores and had him on antibiotics and pain medicine. He wants to keep him a few days so they can keep an eye on the sores and dress them when they need to be. He said that Joey's immune system was very low after the whole swallowing the ball incident and that might have contributed to Joey's reaction. I'm going to visit him today, so I'll know more a little bit later. Please send Joey some good thoughts!
