The lady is a local gal who had an oops with a pet, not getting into that debate lol she's not a breeder and already has her spay appointment booked.... She's "selling" the pups for $100 to cover their first shots and hopefully help ease the cost of the spay...

I know we all are more careful (barring Father In Laws who are not that bright, rest his soul)

She did look around the shelters here, but wasn't finding much and they really wanted to have a puppy, and love Bassets, and Beagles... So when this chance came up she took it.., they had considered rescuing another dachshund but were worried about expecting him or her to be "like" Monte....

Anyhow, he'll be a while before he comes home, and they've not come up with a name yet....

They're adorable! Enjoy the baby breath!

Do spays really cost 700 there? I know it's snarky but it made me laugh (like that claim always does) to see 7 pups and the owner needing 100 a pop to ease the cost of the spay. <eye roll>

No but first shots run at least $50 a pup and spays for a bitch that's had pups are around $250 on the low end, so I don't think it's that bad, she also said she was advised not to make them free, not defending her but I do think she's trying to do the right thing with the knowledge she has

The other thing is, the shelters here charge huge for a pup, it's ridiculous.... And while Jenn and Matt are doing ok, and have some of my ideals imparted in them, to pay $300 plus for an intact pup from a shelter just is not something they want to do, so this was their choice, and I feel while its not perfect by any means its not like buying from someone pumping out litter after litter to make money, these are simply adorable accidents that happened to nice but not overly dog smart people...

I know at least here, if the dog is intact when adopted, they get a deposit back after proof that they had it speutered.

Also, a lot of times people will claim it's an oops litter and "oh, we're getting her spayed!" so people will pay for the pups ;) So unless you know them, I wouldn't be so sure, but I just don't trust anyone.

Regardless, cute pups! They must be so excited :D

I don't know her personally, but through friends, may be bull but they truly seem honest and most are asking like $3-500 for random mixes so If they were doing it for money then I would think they'd ask more but meh....not my deal really, I understand where the kids are coming from and don't blame them for going this route, the one humane society will give a $50 gift certificate for specific vets, but even with that my vet is cheaper, or one of the clinics held every so often, they are way cheaper.
