Well, as you may know, my computer crashed... so I lost itunes, with the songs still on my ipod. Usually when I plug the ipod up to the computer, it'll update the ipod so it's the same as the itunes library...

I was wondering how I would be able to transfer the songs and such from the ipod to itunes instead of the other way around. I was also wondering whether or not it'll delete everything on my ipod if I plug it in to the computer.

Thanks in advance! :)

It shouldn't delete everything on the ipod -- make sure you set it to manually update, rather than automatic sync though.

And as for songs from ipod to itunes, you're going to have to get a 3rd party program. I suggest ephPod, it's really simple to use -- and FREE! Just google ephPod.

What Erica said. I think you have to put in your password for pretty much every song because it'll be encoded in that m4p crap and I'm not sure if a converter has been written for m4p to mp3.

Just don't sync the iPod (don't load up iTunes) til you get everything off and you'll be fine with EphPod.

Also I think you can re-download any songs you bought off iTunes for free.

You can't take songs back off your iPod, they're encrypted, but if you have bought songs off iTunes, you should be able to download them again for free

Oh, true, forgot about that. I'm not an iPod user personally (Toshiba gigabeat FTW) so I'm not really "in" on the whole iPod scene, lol

You don't need a third party program...

1. Plug in the iPod to your computer.

2. Open up My Computer. (you're running windows XP, right?) The iPod should be detected as a removable hardrive. Open that...

3. If you don't see a folder titled "iPod Control", it's hidden/invisible (whatever you call it). To make it visible go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View, and then check (enable) the option “Show hidden files and folders.”

4. Open the iPod Control folder and then the music folder.

5. The music folder contains the iPod’s music and videos, divided into folders. Copy the library to your My Music folder located in the My Documents Folder.

6.The files copied have four letter file names. To reveal the names of the songs and videos, add the files to the Windows Media Player or iTunes libraries or switch to “Tiles” view in Windows Explorer. You might have to manually rename some though.

I had the same problem when I had a virus and had to reinstall Windows XP. iTunes can be a drag.
