Everyone, say hello to Mexi!

Mexi is a 5(ish) year old RezDog. I found her on the Zuni Reservation when she was only 10 or 12 weeks old. She was very sick, and I wasn't sure if she would make it. She was also terrified of humans, having never interacted with any beyond being yelled at, or chased away. I'd consider her well on her way to being part feral.

She's a very timid, shy dog, as is typical of RezDogs. She has improved extremely in the years I've had her, she will allow strangers to pet her and actually approach new people on her own, but she still has moments. All together she is a very sweet, gentle dog.

I don't know what it is exactly about her, but I absolutely adore her. She just draws me in. Such an enchanting way about her and I still to this day would love to know just what's in her

Now, question-Do RezDogs vary greatly in type reservation to reservation? Are they more uniform in the same areas? Because I know in California there are RezDogs that look very very similar to Koolies and I was curious if each reservation as their own unique dog type

Well, I'm not sure about everywhere, but I'd imagine that they'd vary with the popular breeds on the rez. Where I found Mexi, there are tons of cattle dogs, labs, german shepherds, anatolian shepherds, great pyranese--the herding dogs, basically.

More or less at least 80% of the rezdogs in this area breed down to resemble dingos. The most common colors are dark reddish brown, tan, white, and brown.

W.O.W!

What a BEAUTIFUL dog!!! <3 She's so muscular! (Look at that 2nd photo!) She's gorgeous. For some reason I see greyhound in her. The body type maybe, and the narrow head? I'm probably off, it's just the first thing that popped into my mind. I also see the anatolian shepherd you mentioned were in the area, though.

Very interesting, thanks for the info Libby!

I actually awhile back found a hunting lurcher that looked just like her that at first I thought it was her.

She has the greatest smile. :)

Most dogs, if left alone to breed indiscriminately, will end up looking a lot like Mexi. It's like the base code for "generic dog".

Thank you guys! I love my Mexers, lol.

RezDog is just slang for reservation dog. EVERYONE here knows what a RezDog is, lol. I'd say at least 40% of the clients at my clinic call their dogs RezDog's, since they either found them on the rez, or adopted them off the rez.

I really see the lurcher in Mexi too, its just so highly unlikely that a greyhound was running around the rez, that I think her mixed genetics just made the resemblence. I've always thought she had Anatolian Shepherd in her, though.

When traveling and people ask, I generally just call her a lab mix, though.
