There's a girl in my classroom... let's call her Kim for the sake of it.

Anyway, Kim lives with her grandparents, like me. However, she was one of the smartest kids in my school. Recently, she's been coming to school crying, locking herself in the bathroom stalls during recess and failing nearly all her tests. I talked to her today. Her grandparents are abusing her and she can't move in with her mom because her there's no room for her mom & her boyfriend & her pets in the same apartment. Anyway, she's SO depressed.

All she wanted was a puppy to keep her company from her grandparents, and they went berserk on her. I'm scared she's going to kill herself if something doesn't happen soon. I'm not going to go to the teachers, but if I hear anymore of it, I'm calling the Kids Help Phone ASAP... that poor kid.

Anyway, this is the pic of the puppy she wants:
Foxhound x, it would fit right into her home personalty wise. He's 8 weeks old.

I don't understand why her grandparents would do that to her... it's like her 80's and 90's weren't good enough for them, and now she's flunking everything?!

Straight up. If her grandparents are abusing her FIRST you need to be talking to an adult, whether it's a teacher or calling a help line. SECOND, if she were to get her puppy it would turn into a weapon her grandparents could use against her, and the puppy would really suffer, which would tear her apart.

There was a young girl here who got the dog of her dreams - she adopted a Giant Schnauzer. Her aunt moved in with them and started abusing her again; her parents wouldn't do anything about it. Well, her aunt hit her one time too many and her dog did what any good dog would do - he protected his loved one. He didn't even injure the woman, but her parents killed him. She disappeared from here after that and it's haunted me ever since . . .

I say call the kids hotline anyway........don't wait until you hear more. I would assume they are trained professionals and might be able to help her out.

(((((((HUGS))))))) to you, I know this is a hard position to be in, but if something irreversable happened to this girl you would never forgive yourself for standing by and waiting. Just call and explain the situation without using names and see if they can offer advice on how to handle it :)

Make the call or tell an adult and if they don't do anything find another that will.
What kind of abuse are you talking about? Physical? If so try to get photo's of her or at the very least start keep a record of any marks (even red ones which are recent) or bruising etc or just record what she tells you. The more info you collect the more it can help her in the end.
A recorded history of on going abuse will stand up in court, make sure to record what you see, what she tells you and the time/date etc.
Good luck
Lynn
