Yep...got bit two weeks ago by a feral kitten. Week later it bit my friend also. Few days later it passed away unexpectedly. Deptartmet of health confirmed there was rabies present on the slide. Yesterday my friend and I went to the er to start our post exposure vaccination series. Three shots yesterday with three more to come. At least I didn't have to do it alone. We had fun with the staff and making fun of ourselves. It's a Christmas eve I'll never forget!

It's a good thing you found out the cat was rabid! Otherwise this would be your LAST Christmas ;)

I've heard rabies shots are horribly, horribly painful. Are they are horrible as "they" all say?

I'm so, so glad you're okay!

I'm sorry you have rabies, but I couldn't help but giggle at the thread title...

Merry Christmas though!

Oh good grief. :(
Glad they found out so you can get the treatment you need. Hope you're OK.

Thanks all...it is a giggle sort of situation to an extent. I probably wouldn't be giggling if I didn't A. have a partner in crime in it and B. there was any risk of me actually dieing. Luckily the vaccination series has a zero percent mortality rate! If you get the pre-exposure vaccinations you have a five percent mortality rate. My odds are better!

It didn't feel great to get the three shots on Friday but it certainly wasn't bad. The immunoglobuline hurt worse than the rabies vaccine and you only have to have that on day zero. My arms felt pretty ok today but I'm good and relax my muscle when they do injections. Since my 'partner in crime' was with and getting the same treatment as me it made it much more bearable. We were pretty giggly and having a good go at the staff while they tried to sort us out.

Right before you go in for your next set of shots you should each squirt your mouth full of Redi-whip (the foamy whipped cream in the pressurized dispenser). :D
:rofl1: Totally do that! I'll give you 1 billion internet dollars if you do! :D

wow - thank God you found out in time - rabies has pretty much 100% mortality rate if you don't find out until symptoms develop!

and the thread title is AWESOME. On another forum I'm on we're trading stories of Christmas stress and miseries and just by the title - you win!

No kidding!!

Glad that you got it early and you seem in positive spirits. I always wonder if I should get the rabies vaccine being that I work with dogs and I'm in a high rabies area. The shots cost and worrying about the rabies vaccine are what have stopped me in the first place, but after these, I might rethink it.

They're supposed to provide us with the preventative vaccine at work, but there's been some shortage/rationing issue for years. This is fine and dandy unless we have to quarantine an animal..in which case the sole tech who IS vaccinated as well as the sole vet who is are the only ones who can handle it. (which means they all have to come in, daily, even on their days off)
