Ok. So I'm in a co-ed gym class where you get to sign up to do 1 of 4 particular activites for 2 weeks for the entire semester, and for this and next week I'm in mountain biking. Well yesterday I was borrowing someone's bike because the gears on mine are all messed up, and the front brake is VERY touchy and the back brake, well you had to squeeze it all the way before anything would happen. So we're going down a hill on a main road where we cross to get to the Paris Trail where we were to be biking that day, and we were stopping so I put on the brakes. Except I go flying over the handlebars and the bike landed on me. Of course this would only happen to me, and no one else. So I ended up scraping my elbow pretty badly and getting really bad road rash, I have a bruise the size of a small soccer ball on my right knee, and I bashed my head (luckily I was wearing a helmet) and I have a grade 2 concussion. This was so embarassing because the teacher for this unit is like...a pro athlete and I felt like such an idiot! this was just the second day of the unit! I didn't want to tell him I had a concussion and that I'm not supposed to participate in the rest of the unit, but I did. Luckily my mark (96!!) won't be affected by this.
Just thought I would share my mishap of the week.

Yah on a bike dont' ever touch the front brakes...ever.

That's just an invitation to do a high side.

Back brakes are key.

o tara, that's terrible, what you did is called an "endo", i've done a few of those myself, matter of fact i think i'm on my fourth helmet in 3 years, although not all those were victims of endo's.

YAY@helmets~!

as for the brakes on a mountain bike, you get 70% of your stopping power from your front brake, yes, front. just hang your butt over the rear tire a little bit, not a lot, and you will feel the difference. i promise.

and don't feel like an idiot, everybody crashes, i think you're super cool for biking, and not giving up once you endo'd. way to go~! keep the rubber side down~!

:D

P.S.
tell the instructor to adjust your rear brake. just a thought.
