I have just been researching the Amish Puppy Mills in the area and come across their schedule. I was also reading some stories from a rescue group that went there. It was awful. A purebred Weimeraner scared out of his mind in the back of a cage. That was one they bought to save. It is so incredible sad and takes place just 2 hours from my home.

You just have to think the puppy millers dont care WHY you buy the dog, they just care that you do.

It's sad to see them suffer but it's also sad to know that these people are contributing to the overpopulation problem.

Buying from puppy mills to save a dog isnt a solution, it only encourages them to breed more. Sad but true.

Ya you know, that thought crossed my mind. I mean if they were going in there undercover and smuggling hundreds of dogs out the back gate when no one was looking, thats one thing. But buying directly from a puppy mill is just as bad as buying from a pet shop isn't it? Doesn't really make sense.

Most rescues I know of only buy from puppy millers if they are "going out of business" that way the dogs don't go back into a life of breeding for someone else.

but aren't the rescues who go to these auctions and buying the dogs supporting the whole thing? supporting the auction, at least . . .

Buying from these auctions contributes to the problem of puppymills. If puppymillers have demand from buyers, they will not stop supplying dogs.

The best way to target puppymills is to not support them.

Ya I have come to realize that you really can't rescue these guys. I mean, if you buy them you may be saving them from a horrible life of breeding, BUT you are giving money to support the problem. Just like buying from pet stores and BYB, if you save them you are still supporting them.
