Or do they avoid certain breeds in general?

Rocky has always been terrified of Pugs. He's never had a bad experience with them but every time he sees one he either tries to hide or turns and tries to run. The first time he met a Pug (an itty bitty puppy) it wanted to play with Rocky so badly. Normally Rocky loves other dogs so I look down to tell him it's ok to go see the dog and he's hiding behind my leg! But after that he was more than happy to play with the huge mastiff puppy.

Since then we've met some really well behaved Pugs and he still tries to hide from every single Pug he meets.

So what breeds (if any) are your dogs scared of or try to avoid?

Or am I the only one with a dog that discriminates?

Hannah, my rat terrier, loves shepherd or husky looking dogs but hates others. It's odd.

Arnold has never liked Malinois, long before we got the breed. Mean, I know. lol

Otherwise, nope, not that I see.

My dogs don't care for most dogs they don't know. Summer really likes shelties and collies and they both like other papillons.

My shelties were afraid of dachshunds for some unknown reason. My aunt's dachshund puppy had both my shelties cornered on the stairs once.

Not so much dislikes, but Jasper ADORES other Collies and Shelties, and I've had a few times that people with Shelties said their dog usually doesn't like other dogs at all and they were super keen on Jasper.

Not really, except Chloe remembered the dogs that attacked her likes year later when we visited where we used to live. She FLIPPED out and was trying to wriggle out of my sisters arms to try and attack them!

And Chloe LOVES shih tzus/lhasas/most fuzzy dogs. Her first best friend at her fosters home was a Lhasa mix and the her best friend with us was a Shih Tzu we used to dog sit that recently passed away. :(

For some reason, Kimma has a weird thing going with Shelties. Like if she sees one she HAS TO TRY AND PLAY WITH IT OMG. Makes her look like a crazy at training classes sometimes, but we do a lot of LAT and things are getting much better. She is also very reactive towards OESDs or any corded breeds. Dunno what that's about. I don't think she wants to play with them, I think she's scared.

Gage is afraid of Boston Terrier and French Bulldog's because one attacked him repeatedly at the dog park the first time i took him. He as 7 months old and 80lbs and the owner tried to get his dog to stop, and Gage would run to me to stop it, so he was never hurt, but he was traumatized so to this day he stays the heck away from them.

And wait....you have a rat terrier??
She lives with my mom and has for the past four or so years, unfortunately due to medical and behavioral issues, but I still consider her mine. I usually clarify though. She's 13 this year and probably the best dog ever.

This is all I can find on my phone, she loves Backup.

Nope. Juno dislikes individual dogs based on personalities but I've never seen her generalize with a whole breed.

We do, of course, come across a lot of people who like to let me know their dog doesn't like boxers. Oh well.

Sam seems to have trouble with sighthounds. Granted, he's only met two, a whippet and a greyhound, but they both fixated on him and bullied him pretty badly. And he's usually fine with rough play. I think he just sets off their prey drive a little too much... we won't stop by our unofficial dog park anymore if we see that one's already there.

He loves other poodles and poodle mixes, though! His best friend is an enormous young Labradoodle, and they both have the exact same play style. They're hysterical to watch.

I have seen several dogs react badly to boxers, but its usually with their play style not their personalities, that said I have also seen a large group of boxers play amongst them selves and its fantastic the way they use their feet :rofl1:.

Many dogs take insult to the way some dogs, my shibas always did this, smack others with their butts.

I used to take Lugia to the dog park everyday (before I found a nicer, more secluded open space) and noticed that she tended to avoid huskies, GSDs, and pitbulls (and mixes thereof). She's never been in an altercation with another dog before so it's not like she's reacting based on past experiences -- I guess she just doesn't like the way that they play?

Meg is terrified of labs and, yes, boxers. The way most interact with other dogs doesn't work for her, and she generalizes and goes on the defense as soon as she sees them.

She loves border collies. Gusto just loves everyone.

Raegan, Keechak, and I met up at a pet store last year and all of our dogs were VERY perplexed by an English Bulldog. Jack was absolutely baffled such a dog existed.

Elsie doesn't like boxers. She's been nailed twice by them at parks where they were offleash, which I don't understand since they aren't that common here and I've met many that aren't dog aggressive.

Wesley had an incident with a GSD when he and the dog were 6 months old, as in they were playing and running, went around a bend, and accidentally collided. This incident sparked a 'THEY ARE OUT TO GET ME' reaction whenever he saw one (groveling and hiding) that lasted up until... last Fall? When he met another one and they fell in instalove and had a blast together. He is now officially a recovered racist dog.

On the love side, he is obsessed with small/med black smooth coated dogs and BMDs. The black ones all remind him of his dog park friend Abraham, one of his best doggy friends who loved to hump Wes's legs incessantly while Wes stood there all zen & smiley, lol. The BMD love comes from his favorite girlfriend dog ever.

Radar and Duke both are not a fan of bulldogs and pugs, not so much scared as just confused as to weather they are actually dogs or not, with all the snuffling and snorting and whatnot I think. Duke was bit by a GSD so anything that resembles one must die now in his books. Desoto loathes everyone equally, but especially large black dogs, labs and rotties mainly.

Radar LOVES poodles and golden retrievers above all other breeds, he will drag me to play with one when most other breeds he couldn't care less about for the most part.

I wouldn't say 'scared' per say but he avoids bully breeds typically. And Boxers and Boston's.

He adores herders and most other small terriers.
