I would love for Maya to share my bed with me. How do I go about that? Right now I dont trust Maya not to chew up everything in my room, and she gets sooo hyper. Should I wait untill we are done training her ears to stand up or what?

I think it really depends on the dog. All three of mine are allowed on the bed, but only one demands that she sleep in the bed... yep you guessed it - ILSA.

And I know why - once she was potty trained, she never had to sleep in her crate, she was always in my bed. This is sort of a bad thing - now, she hates to sleep anywhere else, which sometimes makes it difficult when traveling or when I just want to *stretch out*.

If you do let Maya sleep in your bed, don't make the mistake I made. Be sure she still has some nights in her crate, or when she's older on the couch or dog bed, etc.

It depends on how big your dog is or is going to get! When we were house training Zoe, she slept in her crate. As soon as she was trained, we let her sleep on our bed. She's now 50 pounds, and sometimes gets in the way, but there is nothing sweeter than waking up to your dog wagging her tail, licking your face good morning. We love having her with us, and if there are times when we need to be alone, we tell her to go in her crate, and she does. Good luck!

We sleep with 3 and sometimes 4 in bed. I'm not talking all small. Only one is 52 lbs. and the other 3 are all over 100 lbs. They do help keep you warm in the winter.

ok so how do I get this started.... we have two crates. One is a plastic "Pet Porter" type crate that is downstairs in the Laundry Room... the other one is a metal wire crate that she has never been in. Should I put the wire crate in my bedroom and start with her sleeping in that for a while to get her used to sleeping in my room?

Naaaah- just go for it! Put the regular crate she's used to in your room in case she wants to retreat to it. Then, at bed time either put her on your bed or invite her up. Close your door, of course. She'll probably love the bed, but if not, her open crate will be there if she prefers. We didn't force it, and Zoe took to it immediately. Let us know how it goes!

ok.. but what about my fear of her chewing things up? How do I get her to lay down and go to sleep and not think it is playtime?

A schedule would help her settle down quickly, just like my toddler - lol! Instead of story time ever night maybe you could do massage time ;) And exercise her really well the first few nights so shes extremely tired and just flops down to sleep!
