Here is a picture of a puppy labeled as a 6 week old red sable. It has relatively clean legs and the illusion of a complete black saddle in the picture.
And another batch of littermates, all black sables. The one from the left looks appearance wise like a bicolor at her age. I'm trying to find pictures of them older, but it's hard to know which is which because they aren't labeled by name in the gallery.
ETA: I've seen some sable puppies go through pretty dramatic color changes as they mature, from dark to almost creamy grey, and then dark again. I do think it's the same dog in both pictures. To the OP, I am glad your puppy is feeling better.
