I have a 1 yr old cat and a 5 month old puppy. The puppy chases after the cat biting and jumping on him. He seems to take it and doesn't really fight back to hard but just lets her play with him. I think that she is hurting him so make the puppy stop but then when I try to keep them separated he meows at her and then seems like he wants to play with her. He sometimes will jump up on the bed or the couch, cry and then wrap his arms around her and bits her. This make me think that he wants to play with her but they just can't seem to find a happy medium because she is growing so fast and is now bigger than him. I'm afraid to leave them alone in a room together because he doesn't really make her stop and always has to be around her and the puppy doesn't understand that she can't go after him like that all of the time. Does anybody have any thoughts on this or should I just let them go at it and not worry so much?

I don't think I'd leave them alone together. Even if its just play, they could seriously hurt one another. I know my cat sometimes confuses me as to whether she is playing or being mean (with me). We will be playing, but she gets real intense sometimes, like she's mad, but yet is seems like she is playing too. Keep doing what you're doing, supervising their time together, I'm sure in time they will work things out. Good luck!
Whenever our puppy got near the cats, we would say be nice to Tiny (the cat). We watch them closely and make sure the pup doesn't hurt the cat and also to make sure the cat doesn't scratch the pup's eyes. One of our cats stays away from the pup, the other cat wants to play and be friends but doesn't realize the pup doesn't know when to stop.
