I'm looking for a nice collar and leash and I was wondering if one is better then the other? It's for a small dog if that makes any difference.

I'm so fond of rolled leather collars , I can't change ! Yes , nylon are cuter , but I've only had Goldens and think a flat nylon collar would wear the hair . To me , the narrower the better .

As far as long lasting, yes, big difference. If you are the type to have a bunch of different collars as "fashion" (nothing wrong with that) then get nylon cutie ones. If you are looking for a NICE collar that you will have with this dog, and possibly other dogs after.........go with leather :)

Nylon irritates my dog's neck, so I have to either go with leather, or get someone to custom-make me a collar with something soft inside. For temporary wear, I've got several of each, both nylon and leather.

I prefer leather and Tosca couldn't care less. It doesn't matter what collar I put on her, it disappears in her fur, she doesn't seem to mind leather or nylon, so I have both. She has two leather leashes, one if a nice handmade Latigo I got at Lucy's, one of our Chaz member's sites. I prefer leather leashes, I just like the feel and look of them. If Tosca's collar would show, they would all be leather.

Thanks for all the replies... I have a nylon collar already but my partner would like to buy a collar that isn't so girlie. I think hes looking to get a leather one.
I was also wondering how long does it take a puppy to get used to their collar. Do I just put it one and leave it?

Dunno if you remember but when wrestling a long while back, Buddy's lower jaw got caught in Banzai's collar and Buddy got wrapped tighter and tighter and was chocking Banzai. Banzai turned blue. We couldn't get them untangled, it was horrible. They all have quick release collars now, though we've not had a problem since. I just don't want to chance it.

I prefer leather, but I have so many collars that my dogs wear just about everything! Leather, Nylon, Cotton, Metal, Hemp, Stones... they've got everything!
