Is store-bought dog food really that bad for your dog that it can kill her?

Is it true all the hype that's going around these days, about how commercial dog food may as well be poison and how it can cause your dog to die prematurely?

Some of these places give pretty solid proof, and I wouldn't be surprised with all the artificial stuff they put into manufactured foods these days -- dog food or human food.

But what do you all think? Any truth to this stuff?

Absolutely...poor nutrition stresses the body and weakens the immune system making your pet more vulnerable to infections and disease. The chemicals, preservatives and drugs that get into pet food affect their health negatively.

There are more and more young dogs experiencing chronic and degenerative conditions that have generally only been seen in older animals. This is not normal!

A person who only ever ate junk food and tv dinners would not be getting adequate nutrition, it's the same for out pets.

There is research by 2 vets in Belgum that indicates that dogs fed a diet of non-commercial food live an average of 30 months longer than dogs fed commercial dog foods.

Yes, most of us here truly believe it. You can improve your dogs quality and quantity of life in most cases by feeding a healthy diet.

BUT......<----big but, LOL That depends on what you call "commercial" Are you referring to bagged kibble in general? (meaning ALL kibble) or when you say "store bought" are you referring to ANYTHING you can buy at a grocery/department (Kroger/Walmart) store? There ARE differences :)

You may still choose to feed a kibble, and that kibble can be healthy, junk free, and good for your dog...........you just have to learn HOW to tell the difference.

This link is a good place to start reading when it comes to Kibbles The Dog Food Project - How does your Dog Food Brand compare?

Yes, all commercial dog foods including all kibbles and all canned no matter brand or where it's sold.

I don't buy that. There may be some kibbles that are less harmful than others but they all are harmful. None could be considered "healthy" any more that frozen TV dinners or fast food restaurants could be considered healthy for humans.

RFD, a "non commercial diet" could be twinkies and milkshakes.........doesn't mean THAT is going to bode well for my dog either, LOL

There most certainly ARE kibbles that are quite fine for owners to feed who don't want to go raw or cook "human food" for their dogs. We know your feelings on the subject, and that is GREAT for YOUR dogs.........doesn't mean everyone else agrees for their own :)

A little hint for you, if you are going to quote everyone and argue YOUR way of thinking over and over in every single food thread you come to...........you won't be here as long as you stated you intend to :)

There is nothing wrong with you offering your opinion, posting up some (backed up) facts, but not turning every food thread into a nightmare to wade through and making it near useless for a new person or searcher to get through. That is trollish behavior and won't be tolerated for very long ;)
