Is my pup a dudley?

Hello,

I was told by my breeder that my pup's parents were both yellow (white color) labs. Everything I have been reading about dudley's say that a chocolate and a yellow produce the dudley trait. So is my girl a dudley, and can two yellow's produce one? Or is my breeder full of it?

The dudley pattern you speak of appears to just be a way to refer to a dog who is a genetic yellow vs. a genetic red - only distinguishable by the pigmentation on the nose, eye rims, etc. It doesn't matter in the long run - just a genetic difference between dogs with similar coat color.

Your pictures aren't showing up, so I can't really say if your pup is a true dudley or not

A Chocolate and Yellow breeding can produce a Dudley. As well as a Yellow carrying the Chocolate gene.

A lot of breeders I've talked to just call it a "yellow wearing chocolate pajamas" The link above is a good one and the breeder that wrote that is actually one of the breeders I'm talking about (she's a member on my Lab board)

Can't see the pics, but Nikki is dead on. A Dudley is a Lab with pink or light brown pigment on the nose, eyes, lips, paw pads, and any other bits of ski you can see. Genetically they're chocolate labs with the yellow gene masking the fur. Most yellows are actually black dogs with the yellow gene masking the dark pigmentation in the fur, so they have dark pigmented skin like a black dog. If your dog has dark pigment but a pink nose, it's called snow nose.
