Why do it then? I mean. . .gah, thats sick! Making your dog fat on purpose just to win a show? :( :(

She was showing them "as is" (in 'fit' condition) but found that she got a LOT of comments that her dogs were too thin, and they weren't doing well in shows compared to the other dogs who were all bulky. It isn't something I would do, but I wouldn't show ;)

I used to hear that all the time walking Missy... poor starved Missy... :p lol
Now that Maddie's at a good weight no one notices anyway (except my parents) because of her hair :D

She looks like she's fine :) She's beautiful!

This thread reminded me that I've been meaning to post a "Is Sierra getting chunky" post ;)

I've had her on kibble for a few months now, and *I* feel her build has started to soften a bit but no one else seems to notice...

That still blows my mind. But, then again, why should it? *sigh*

I've had the same comments about Saga and Django. The times I would get them the most is when we were at Petco. Our vet does the vaccine clinic there so after I few comments , I would ask our Doc if they were too skinny...his response "People are too used to seeing thier own fat dogs to know what a dog in good condition looks like." This was said in front of a woman with an obese Boxer who had commented on my kids' weight. If you and your vet are ok with Kenya's weight, then I am sure she is fine. ;)

I *heart* my vet, the bastid that he is.

Definately not!
I love a thin healthy dog.
As long as you cant see her ribs, then she is perfect.
They should be easily felt though.
I get really turned off by fat dogs.
I love my thin Kelpies!

I think Kenya looks stunning! She looks like a nice, fit, toned dog. :) Anyone who says that she looks starved is probably in denial about their own, overweight dog. I rarely say ANY dog looks starved, unless they are lacking muscle tone, and they have boney protrustions. I see evidence of neither on Kenya.

I get two different, but equally annoying, opinions on both of my dogs. Gonzo looks too skinny... and Fozzie looks fat. Gonzo is at PERFECT weight, and his muscle tone is insane. Fozzie is also very muscular and as far as his body shape, I'm convinced that he is simply not meant to be a lean dog. He has super thick bone structure, and I honestly think he would look weird if he was as lean as Gonzo is. He's still very agile, fast, healthy, and has a tuck-up and palpable ribs. But people see that he is low to the ground and "big boned" and call him chubby. :( He is fed a very high quality diet in half the amount that the average dog of his weight would be fit on. (<1 lb of raw, or 1.5 cups of kibble) Just like people, dogs come in different shapes and sizes and types, even dogs of one breed, and differ in what is "healthy" for them.

Some people are fanatics, on either end of the scale. A lady on my Flyball team called Gonzo "pudgy"... WHA? Her BC was very, very, very thin - borderline sighthood thin. She was also of a totally different style/body type than Gonzo and I tried to make that point, but she had her mind made up. Some people say that Fozzie is leaner than any Corgi/mix they have ever seen... which might be true... while others think he's way overweight. Usually, their assumptions and judgements are based purely on their own dog and what they have come to see, in close-minded fashion, as the ONLY way a dog should look.

I think she looks perfect :).

Oh god if I had a nickle for everytime I was told that Sawyer was too skinny or not a Lab because he wasent a walking pile of fat. I would be a very rich lady ;).

Its so sad because 9/10 times I see Labs in public they are obese panting messes.

Sorry but I like my Lab to look like this

And now that Maggie May has really dropped the lbs people always comment that she's too skinny. Because when she curls in a ball you can feel her spine. You can't see it though.

I think she's just fine

That's one thing I've had to accept with Rose. She's just built differently than the others. Often times I look down at her and she looks like a little round ball. Of course a lot of the illusion is hair but she is wider than Summer and Nard and even Beau. From the top, she looks to have no waist but from the side she has a great tuck up. She's just shorter bodied than the others and shorter legged so that's why she appears 'fatter'. I actually just felt her and Summer and Summer might even be a little pudgier than she is, but Rose looks a lot rounder.

Here's a good pic from the side when she's wet so you can see she's not fat at all.

Versus the little round thing:

I think she looks fine. Most p[eople are not used to seeing a dog in a actul good weight. I get told Blaze is to skinny. I dont get it as he looks fat with all his coat. You should see peoples faces when he is dry at the park and then dives int he water and re amerges, he looks like he gets 2 pieces of kibble a day, and he could still stand to loose a LBS or 2 IMO.

Kenya looks great, keep doing what your doing.

To many people have fat dogs, which IMO is abuse. and Like others have said, to many people are used to seeing fat over weight dogs.
