My brother's wife's mother has two labs, a male and female both spayed & neutered. Sasha the female is a black lab around 3 years and Bosco is a chocolate lab around 2.

Their owner Magdelynn (strange name I know) mixes 3 types of food together to boost what the other food is lacking. As far as I know its Canidae, Gold something and another food I can't remember what it is though.

I was just wondering if that's healthy or not because I was thinking there may be TOO MUCH good stuff like protein, etc..

I mixed kibbles when I was feeding Milo. I don't think there's a problem with it. If you are feeding good kibbles, it is the same net effect, in my opinion. I mixed up Milo's kibbles often, so that he wouldn't become dependent on one brand or one taste.

When we switched to raw, it was easy for him because he was accustomed to his diet being changed up.

Variety is the spice of life ;) It is good to mix foods or change up often so that your dogs get different sources of protein :) As long as they aren't having any stomach issues, then I can't say that there is any problem with her choice.

I used to mix a lot.. till I found orijen and her poop has been better than ever. Afraid to disrupt the balance with anything other than meats and such now and then.

Yup. It stands to reason that no one food, no matter how great, can provide the same kind of perfect balance that a variety of fresh foods can. So, the next best thing is to rotate. How often and what doesn't really matter - and mixing up high quality foods has the same effect.

This assumes a healthy dog of course, and not highly sensitive to changes in diet! ;)

I know that aquarists are told to feed various things to thier fish, even if they feed the fish equivalent of innova. I know that people are recommended to vary their diet. I have one large bag of food that I feed Sarama from in the morning, and 3-4 small bags that get rotated at night. My only concern with that knd of super diet is that if the dog lives a lazy life, they may have a souped up energy level that would be hard to deal with. The only time I've heard the phrase too much protein was in reference to large breede pups and kidney disease.
