I want to thank you guys. I just learned something I didn't know. I had no idea salmon can be dangerous to dogs.

Also, I am going to try to drum up a link I had on fish advisories across the USA. I was astounded at what we have done to our waters in most states. There seemed to me limits and warnings just about everywhere. If I can dig up the link I will post it here.

Again, thanks for information that might have saved my dog's life, as I am a salmon eater and might have one day been tempted to give some to Tosca.

Hmmm... I feed Hudson the Natural Balance Salmon and Sweet Potato formula. Hope they use salmon from a healthy source. Maybe I'll write the company to try to find out!

I only eat Alaskan wild caught salmon when I eat salmon. I'm surprised to hear that may have a parasite!

EDIT: Oh wait, it's just the Washington/Oregon fish that have the parasite. Alaska seems ok.

All pacific salmonid species can have this parasite, so should not be fed raw. Atlantic is fine.

Also avoid farm raised salmon, it can have much higher levels of contamination than wild caught salmon and has a very negative impact on the environment.

Canned wild caught Alaskan salmon is usually very inexpensive and an excellent addition to the diet.

Yes it is safe, since the fish in it is not raw. Cooking/heat processing makes it safe.
