My name is Paul. My wife,Melissa, found this site when we were trying to get a third or 103 opinion about our beloved Cocker Spaniel, Rusty. Unfortunately, Rusty passed on today. We buried him on his favorite knoll and now we're trying to figure out how to carry on without this ray of sunshine. We still have Rusty's best friend, Nip (Springer/Cocker Mix) for which we are eternally blessed. I'm joining this forum to try to keep Rusty's memory alive. I'm including a tribute that I've written from my heart. May no one else feel this pain.

When I found my new Family,
I had no Name.
They took me in
And loved me all the same.
I was broken down,
All dirty, hungry and dusty,
But they gave me a name,
They Called Me Rusty.

I’m somebody now,
Not all alone.
They took me in,
And gave me a home.
I’m not on the streets
So I don’t have to fight.
I now have a home
To rest my head at night.
We are having such fun
I run and jump and play,
And at your feet I will sit
After a very long day.

I’ll love this family
With all my heart,
But I know one day,
We will have to part.
My new Family loves me,
I know they do.
Love like this,
Wow, I never knew.

I have spent many years with my family,
And time has taken its toll.
I’m getting old now,
Almost time to go.
I’m with my new Master now,
He is taking good care of me.
When you get here,
I’m Sure you will see.
He will take care of you too,
That’s just His way.
I will be with my family again,
On that faithful day.

We love you Rusty !!!

Hello and welcome to chaz. I am so sorry for your loss and you are with people here who feel your pain. Our little furry friends are our kids and when we have to part it is so very painful. Just try to remember all the good times you had together and that while he was with you he was happy. Your poem said that. very nicely done.

Hi Paul, Melissa & Nip....welcome to Chaz!! I'm so very sorry for your loss.....losing someone you love so much is extremely painful. Rusty was a very lucky dog to have found such a loving family to spend the rest of his days with!!! You will be comforted by the happy memories of time spent with him.

Thank You

Thank You all for your kind words and caring. To help everyone understand, Rusty was a stray and just happened upon my front porch one day about 10 yrs ago. He was a part of the family ever since. He looked like he had been abused, matted hair,dirty,Mal-nourished.I'm asking that no one ever take a stray for granted, Who knows ....he may turn out to be one of the best friends you ever had. We Love you Rusty and may your meories live on. Thank you for you kindness. Paul
