I just joined and thought I should introduce the my little man as well. He's 14 weeks old now and growing like a weed! He's a Kuro-goma (black sesame) male Shikoku Ken. He flew over from Japan first week in November and has adjusted well to life in the US.

I'll start from the beginning with pictures.

Here are some early pictures of him before his trip to the US.

Picking him up from the airport was rather easy and hassle free (thank goodness). Here are some pics of him after his flight

I have been intrigued by this breed forever. I love them! Totally the wrong type of dog for me to live with though. I hope you stick around and share lots of pictures of your little guy. He is beautiful. :)

Welcome! What a cute pup -- I am looking forward to seeing him grow up!

If you don't mind, what airline did you use to import him? We have a fair number of imported dogs floating around the forum and it's always nice to know which airlines are good.

Thanks everyone! He flew im United Petsafe. He arrived in good condition despite being in the crate at least 16 hours, and the women that were at the petsafe desk were very concerned for him because he had pooped in his crate LOL But after a 12 hour flight, going through customs, and everything inbetween, I don't blame him..

Here are some more pictures :)

I was putting him in his crate at night at first since he wasn't potty trained at all when I got him...but after a week and some serious training on what not to chew...I wake up to this every morning lol And I LOVE it. (No accidents btw, and he sleeps all night now too. Sometimes I wake up before him!)

This is from one of his trips to the dog park :) He had a pretty good time chasing around a boxer puppy. Luckily the other pup was waaaaay faster than him so the boxer didn't get caught by kiyoshi and loved to be chased so it worked out well.

This is his favorite spot to sit at and watch everything going on. We're on the 4th floor so he gets to view everyone in the parking lot coming and going...come to think of it..it'd be considered pretty creepy if I sat in the window like that and stared at everyone. Haha! It works for him though ;) It's his dashing charm. When I have the window open I can sometimes hear people 'awww'ing at him LOL

Geese aren't so easy to get to when they're in the water...

After jumping in the freezing water trying to get to the geese he had a nice warm back

Very neat, looking forward to watching him grow up on here and learning more about the breed. He's very gorgeous, love his color!

What made you decide this breed?

Thanks everyone!

We have a Kai Ken in the family and I fell in love with her so I grew an interest in the Japanese breeds. These little guys aren't for everyone though. There's 3 kennels in the US (1 in Canada), and only a handful of litters born in the states every year. They are just as rare in Japan with only about 200 pups born every year...he's my little gem :)

I look forward to watching him grow too! It'll be an experience...I'd never seen one in person until I got him.

Congrats! If they are like Shibas the. House training should be a breeze! Any other training, well good luck lol. They are defiantly not for everyone, after our Shibas I tell people who want one because they are so cute, which come on they are beautiful, to do a whole lot of research because they can be hard to live with lol. He is very cute and I can't wait to see how he grows! I love to old Japanese Shiba lines and if I were to get one again I would probably import as well because breeding over here has ruined them IMO.

GORGEOUS little guy.

And for my own selfish purposes, I hope you keep us updated on how he turns out! I've been on the hunt for breeds that I like for some time, and I'm curious to know more about the Shikoku. I suspect that, as with a lot of breeds, I may not be the right home for one and will have to admire from afar, but my list is still broad right now.

Super cute! There was a member on another forum that breeds these in Utah, I always loved seeing pictures of them. Glad to see another one here. :)
