Introducing Christie

She's our new puppy. She's been with us for two weeks today, and will be 2 months old tomorrow. She's so adorable but her teeth are like needles!

Now, we're having the same problem we had with Charlotte.... Blondie doesn't accept her, he growls and doesn't want to be near her. I know we're doing the wrong thing by keeping them apart, but I'm afraid he'll bite her since she's so little and he's big and fully grown... Since Blondie was sick when he was a baby and the vet told us not to let him near other dogs to protect him, he's not been properly socialized. I accept that, but I don't know how to get them to like each other now... Christie wants to play with him and runs to him every time she sees him but he is so afraid of her and runs off.... when he doesn't growl or bark at her

Any ideas will be so welcome!

Please tell me after the blondie sadness you found a decent breeder.. Though I'm not sure how you would have found one so quickly..

She's really cute, but I echo the others... Had my puppy died of parvo you bet i would have taken the time to find a good breeder for the next one... It probably won't help either with Blondie that she was taken from her mom two early and has no idea where she is going too far.

Gee, guys... thanks for the support! However, I'm not sorry I got Christie, I was so devastated after Charlotte's death and I so wanted another puppy... It's hard to explain and I guess if you haven't been through it, or even if you have, it's difficult to get anyway. I'll just work on them both now and hope for the best

She's adorable

I am very against getting a 6 week old puppy, and I think that the earliest a dog should go to a home is at 8 weeks of age. Patience is a virtue, and every good thing is worth waiting for... especially puppies from responsible breeders.

What I would be worried about is a puppy who has to go through reduced maternal antibodies still before it can mount an immune response to a Parvo vaccine.

Isn't that what killed Charlotte, or am I mistaken?

It ended up to be a bacteria... Campbylobacter... not a relief but she came from a pet shop and her immune system was too low. I already took Christie to the vet and she got her first vaccine on Wednesday.

Thanks, Steve. Call me too sensitive, but that's how I feel sometimes. However, I value people's opinions and this forum has helped me greatly with my dogs, that's why I keep coming back.

I know I'm not a perfect owner, but I do love my pups very much and want the best for them.

Yes but going to byb type breeders isn't in anyones best interest no matter how cute the pup. It only encourages them to breed more.

And I have been there. I had a JRT killed just after our old guy (a newf shepard cross) died at the ripe old age of 13. It was horrible being dogless. But I called breeders I knew and respected to find out if anyone had a puppy returned or a much bigger litter than expected. It took a few months but we got Kaiden (there is more of a story there) but the point is I do know how you feel, but imagine if something happens to this one?

It's ok. I had the exact same problem. Your dog will used to get its living. Even though it looks like it's biting, it's not. Seperating will only increase the amount of time for them to like each other.

When my son brought his puppy home my 7 y/o Border Collie ignored her for the 1st 4 days. After that she started to play with the pup who was only 6 weeks old at the time, she came from my son's work colleague who wanted to get rid of the puppies. My dog snapped at the puppy when needed, the pup would always go back for more & if she wanted to get away from the older dog she'd go under the BBQ. They eventually became the best of friends.
I would let them together only with supervision.

Thanks guys. Yes, they're together with supervision only because she's very small and too playful. We've been having a little progress, which is Blondie can be in the same room with Christie (especially if she's eating or sleeping, because he knows she's harmless )
