This is exactly the article we should give all the people who consider buying a pup from a pet store. Sickening.

Just beyond comprehension. I can't believe that the article isn't "made up" because it is just so "no holds barred" blatenly callus and because of it's origin. I do believe that it is meant to give character to the absolute horror that is reality for so many helpless dogs. It takes your breath away to sit and picture what life is like for some dogs, then to look into the eyes of your own and remember there's no difference in spirit..just in circumstance. Too sad for words.

Oh my god, that is just unbelievable!!! At first I thought it was a joke, but then I thought of the fact that even if it is a joke and made up, it's actually happening!

i hate some people. all that man cares about is a profit. i feel like stuffing that man into a cage to feel what those dogs feel and letting him suffer in his own poo too.

The thing is, even if it is fake... puppy mill owners don't consider the dogs any differently than this interview shows.

you wonder why so many animals end of with issues due to lack of socialization and being treated like less than a piece of furniture. Just terrible. I notice how he keeps calling himself a breeder, sure...

i have a quick question. puh-lease don't take this as anything other than it is....an honest to God question because I'd like to know what you all think...that's it :)

The animals (cats/dogs) at PetsMart are brought over by local humane societies and shelters for adoption. If the animals are from a humane society/shelter (that does interviews/applications/in home visits/shots and spay/neuter) but are being "adopted out" via help from the store...is that wrong? They are not pet shop dogs but shelter/HS dogs (and cats) that are getting more exposure so people can see what's offered at the local HS/shelters on a weekly basis. I figure if it helps give a HS/shelter dog (or cat) a good home a little quicker it's not bad.

So, even though they are at a "pet store" they aren't "pet shop" animals. Is it ok to get a pet in this case?

The problem with pet stores is that many/most of them get there puppies from puppy mills. In this case these dogs are already at a shelter (and may have come from a puppy mill originally or may not have). I don't find anything wrong with the pet store helping these pets to be adopted. It gets the animals exposure with pet lovers that they normally would not have. I don't think the pet store makes any profit from the adoptions? but I could be wrong.

It's a very reasonable question.:) I don't know how all of them work but in Calgary we have a Petstore chain with a "Pets for Life" program. IMO, it's just terrible..they find dogs from different situations and adopt them out to whom ever comes with cash really. They aren't from local shelters, rescues or Humane societies though. I see the repercussions in classes and often it ends poorly. They also charge more than is reasonable so I think it's more of a promo scheme (they also sell puppies from BYB's and Mills) and money maker for the store. It would be easy to find out where the dogs come from when in this situation, I'm sure that some stores are ligit.

What an @$$. I hate him and I don't even know him.

I don't think Petsmart adoptions are bad. I believe certain shelters go to the stores with certain animals, and they usually don't allow adoption "on the spot". You still have to go through the whole process of being approved and all that.

Yeah with Petsmart, you still have to go through an application process, just like if you had gone directly to the HSociety. I think it is great that they do that for the shelters. I only ever see cats in the PS near me.

My newest kitty was from a "Pet store" a few years ago. That is it was very small local supplies only petstore that kept cages on hand for the occasional needy pet to find a home. He was given up along with two others by an elderly woman who was moving to a nursing home. We had stopped in the store for aquarium supplies, and saw the boy, he had been there for two weeks, and his two buddies had already been adopted, they were Persians, so they got snatched up right away, but old jinxy was just a plain old tiger :) Couldn't pass his sad green eyes up...
