So, Sunday night was my Grandma's go away party in her home town an hour away from where I live. So me, the boyfriend and the rest of the family went out. We left Alexa in the back yard to run around and have fun, with the next door neighbors keeping an eye out, like we usually do. So the boyfriend and I get home first, followed by the parents. I went to my boyfriend's place only to get a call from my sister asking if I had Alexa. The dog, too smart for her own good, OPENED THE GATE and had been running around the neighborhood while we were gone!!!

She has HORRIBLE recall. When she escapes from the house, I always have to lure her back with food. Thankfully Sunday she decided she was going to listen. I called her twice and within 30 seconds she was at my side. She wouldn't let any of the neighbors take her home, she ran around till I got back. I am so thankful that she didn't get hit, or get into a fight with coyotes or something. I'm also thankful for the wonderful understanding neighbors we have. Someone upstairs was sure looking our for me and my dog yesterday. PHEW!

So, much bigger, more complicated gate lock needed.

Now to the issue. I have always had problems getting Alexa to go potty when out on walks. She'd always hold it till we got back and then went in the yard. I have finally figured out why! She refuses to go to the bathroom while she has a leash on. Anyone have any ideas of how I can get her used to going while on leash? Or do I just deal with things the way they are?

Thanks. :)
