What kind of vacuum do you own? I'm in serious need of a new one and the Dyson gets great reviews. It's expensive though, so a cheaper alternative would be nice. I need something for the dog hair!

*I voted for Belle, Sparks! :D

So far - barring what I've heard about the Dyson - I've yet to find anything that does the work my old Kirby does. You can usually pick up a used/reconditioned one with all the attachments AND the shampooer for around $200/$300.

I want a dyson..

Showdogs-l (the apple ease list) had a long discussion on vacuums and 40 or more people seemed to write in praising theirs. Most had 4 or more dogs, and had owned their vacuum for a few years at least. Only 1 person complained theirs had broken., and list mates actually helped correct the issue.. that vacuum works again too.

I currently have a little baby of a DirtDevil and I"m not thrilled with it. Works great for doing just my tiny bathroom and kitchen, not so hot on the rest of the place. I have a shoebox of studio and I have to stop and empty the canister every 3 minutes or so if I don't vaccum twice a day, everyday.

My family had a Hoover and it was an awesome, awesome machine. Lasted FOREVER, with with three kids and a dog. The only thing I didn't like was that it took bags and they were kind of hard to replace.

I want to get either a Dyson (years in the future...) or a full-sized Dirt Devil.

Go hard floors. I can't live without 'em. :D
AMEN! We have all porcelain and/or ceramic tile all downstairs and I LOVE IT! It's cold, but throw rugs positioned in key areas do the trick ;)

The walk through room leading to the upstairs and the stairs/upstairs it's self is all carpeted, so we still must have a vacuum.

Right now we have a Dirt Devil bagless that is about 5 years old, it has seen better days for sure. We are looking closely at the Dyson even though it is expensive, from all reports it looks well worth the price.

The wife of one of the head engineers at work got a Dyson and was MORTIFIED to come home and see it in PARTS all over! He was VERY impressed with the way it performed and wanted to SEE what made it better than their other vacuum! Hahahahahhahahaha.......JOB HAZARD!

I go through bags like mad ..... small amount of carpet, but major dog hair !!! I usually buy mine via internet ....My cleaners since '50s have been hand-me-downs . I did buy a small Sanyo mainly for the hardwood and tile floors which I love !!! Was $85 and a great little machine with many features . Very light weight for a Grammy when used in a portable mode .

Zoomer, I had a full sized Dirt Devil. Even with hardwood floors and just a couple of big area rugs the thing was sub-par at best. Matter of fact, it's sitting in the corner in my kitchen - along with the parts I took off YET AGAIN from the last time it tanked.

Dyson! I bought mine at Target on sale, plus I got the pink one so some of the purchase price went to breast cancer research... and I got myself a nice $100 gift card. After all was said and done it cost maybe $250?
I love it. It's actually the second we own - mom has one in the basement, mine is upstairs, so we don't have to lug it up and down stairs (unfortunately, we did not buy the light one, so it is not exactly a joy to carry.)

It works lovely on non-carpeted surfaces too.

I thought the Dyson was the best.......until I bought a Rainbow vacuum cleaner! Yes it was expensive, but boy has that thing been a blessing!

Our carpet never looked better from a single vacuuming, it 2nds as a shampooer, and 3rds as a humidifier you can fill up with water & a nice scent & stick in front of your ac intake vent.

I sold the Dyson for a measly $50 at a yard sale..........and never regretted it.
