I was browsing through a horse forum I lurk and occasionally post on and came across this thread: Agressive dog and livestock

I feel for the girl but :yikes: at some of the suggestions! I posted the best advice I could think of--thankfully PA (Pig Aggression-lol) is not something we've had to deal with here. It seems like she's seriously considering alpha rolling the dog, which scares me.....

yeah I agree with you, it seems like the owner of the Rotti is the one that needs to be re-trained. I hate it when people create problems, then blame the animal for the problems that they created. As a fellow horse-person I understand your frustration, I find (unfortunately) that a lot of horse owners are not responsible with any of their animals (as in having an intact rotti, not exercising him, not socializing him properly, and then wondering why he turns agressive), let alone their horses. It's very frustrating.

I love how she considered beating him and flipping him and she didn't even acknowledge several suggestions about getting in a professional dog trainer. For the dog's sake, I hope she re-homes him.

*Edit: Not that the Rotti being intact has anything to do with his problems, I don't know if it does or not, but I do know that if you are not a professional breeder, having an intact dog of any breed with no real knowledge of proper/effective training is almost always a bad idea

Wow, that is painful to read. I have found there are few people as idiotic as some of the backyard horse people. And you can't tell them a darn thing, because they know better. Their grandfather had horses, after all!

Good for you for at least trying to point them in the right direction. I considered joining to back up your post, but I know just how well it goes over when a new person joins a forum just to get involved in a controversial thread.

Yeah, that was painful to read - it's a train wreck and it's gonna keep happening since the OP is 'drawn' to those breeds.

I hope the rottie finds a decent home...

If someone is posting about how she hates the dog now, but after watching some CM episodes, she knows what to do, I don't think she'd want to hear what anyone here had to say. :(

Ew.

I hope that person stops seeking out dogs until they understand them on a much greater level. Maybe other living things in general.

Just gross
