So we're living in a rural part of Andalusia, Spain, where we volunteer at a rescue centre. The problem is that there is only one other volunteer and a couple of council workers; not nearly enough people to keep on top of things as we have up to 125 dogs at any one time. Having said that we still get things done, such as rehoming 160 dogs this year so far in northern European countries which don't have pet over-population problems.

An idea came to us of inviting people down to our idyllic sierra to enjoy the area in the mornings (whether it be biking, kayaking, hiking or just taking it easy) and the evenings and maybe helping out a bit by walking the dogs or just giving them some affection to get them accustomed to being handled, played with etc. in the afternoons.

Anybody wanting to get some sun in a still pretty much hidden part of real Spain (not the Costas) for next to nothing could have our house in the village and I could take folks out and about round local villages etc to get to know the area before heading up to the centre and offering a hand. I've been blown away by the interest.

My blog is http://wellbeinginandalusia.wordpress.com/2014/06/01/a-departure-from-our-original-vision/ so anybody fancying an escape to help some poor dogs out down here in a quiet little paradise would be well looked after by us and their good work would be much appreciated!

That sounds like a great idea! I know of a couple places in the Caribbean do something similar to get dogs walked and puppies socialized at their local shelters.

I'll second the facebook page thing - I'd love to help share it.

Just did the FB page about an hour ago. Will be adding photos when I finish at the rescue centre this evening and trying my best to get more photos up daily.

Much appreciated for the help!

ETA My FB page. I forgot the most important thing:lol-sign:

Hey, thanks a lot, too! I linked to it on my response to Dizzy.

Hey, thanks a lot! Much appreciated as I'm not part of any dog communities online. Also finding my way around FB is a bit tricky but I'm getting there.

Shared the page! This is really a great idea - I hope it attracts the volunteers you need. :)

My boyfriend and I are tentatively planning a Eurotrip for 2015 and if we do I will try my very best to try and stop by and visit.

Very cool idea! I just shared it with my friend who is a travel writer and is starting her own travel magazine here in Florida. Maybe she will be interested in writing a little bit about your group in an article. Never hurts to ask! Good luck! :)

Thanks guys:cool:

I've just learned how to use Photobucket so can start getting some photos up of our rescues, starting with this beautifully coloured Galgo who came in two days or so back and will be heading off to Germany on Monday:)

Also this awesome lad came in a few days back and I want him so bad but he wouldn't fit into my pack

I will, however, be adding this terrier cross lass to my current five lunatics:cool:

Frantic weekend before 25 dogs head off to their new forever homes in Switzerland and Germany. Showers were the order of the day

and then a glass of wine with one of my spoilt dudes to celebrate the awesome lives they're heading off to enjoy:cool:

Your new girl is just beautiful! Great shots, keep them coming :)
Thanks! A couple more, first of Yuna who got herself a forever home within a day of landing in Switzerland and then Rascal, who found a fosterer, too. I'm so happy this lad managed to survive the health scare last week and now has an awesome life ahead of him:cool:
