Innova vs Beneful

After reading many threads regarding dog food, I decided to switch my lab from Beneful to Innova. My dog has pretty bad allergies, and I was hoping that somehow (magically) the Innova would help.

I'm not sure that Innova had any effect on his allergies, but it did have one other pleasant effect. My lab had a nasty "habit" of leaving little poop smears where ever he would sit. Our couch was essentially ruined by his little brown stains.

However, very shortly after we switched to Beneful, his poop smears disappeared completely. It's been 2+ months now and I haven't seen a smear since a few days after we switched.

I'm not sure that this would work for every dog, but it worked for mine!

That's great! And, not at ALL surprising... Beneful vs Innova is like cupcakes vs salad. Innova is so much healthier, no more corn & sugar & food dyes.

I would say you made an excellent decision. :]

That's great news! Maybe something like California Natural (made by the same people that make Innova) would help his allergies.

If his allergies get too bad, maybe your vet can recommend a allergy food.

But yes, good for you for switching. Beneful is on the lower list of quailty dog foods, esp. if your dog has allergies.

I also know that Natural Balance has allergy formulas infact almost all their foods are. Good for you on switching, you've chosen a much better food!

How long have you been feeding Innova? It may take up to a month before you notice a difference with the allergies. It takes a while for whatever your dog is allergic to to leave the system.

While I love Innova, it isn't what I would recommend for a dog with allergies. It has too much in it, meaning too much in it for a dog that has allergies, too much in it to be allergic to. I agree that you should try California Natural. As mentioned before it is made by Natura, the same company that makes Innova.

It's been about 10 weeks or so since we switched to Innova. I'll look for California Natural at the store. Thanks for the tip!

Depending on what your Lab is allergic to, Innova might have been a good bet.

My Belgian, Riot, has a sensativity to anything that contains wheat. I have him on Innova Evo Red Meat Formula mainly because Evo has NO grains in it..

Definately try and find out what your pup is allergic to. I know that any dog that has allergies are more then likely wheat sensative so start by eliminating any wheat or grains from their diet for start and go from there
