Mine are all on Canidae; they like the chicken and rice formula and are doing well. They are more eager to eat Canidae than Innova.

Yes,
I will try the pumpkin pie suggestion, Renee, thanks.

I have not heard of Giardia Antigen? What is it?
I'm willing to try anything, it's not much fun coming home from work at 9pm and finding doody sprayed all over the walls.:(

Should I switch to a different type of dog food, because it might be too rich for my dog?
Giardia is a parasite that can cause loose stools, malabsortion, etc. I tried too many things to even count before my vet ran the Giardia antigen (after two regular Giardia fecals came back normal) and found that for more than 6 months he'd had Giardia the entire time!!
If I were you before I changed foods I'd make sure it isn't Giardia.
Per an article in the Whole Dog Journal recently (this summer sometime) Giardia is much more comman in dogs that was thought previously and their reccomendation (and mine after my experience) is a Giardia Antigen first thing.

Hi NeoPhyte,

You should really have a good look at what the professional breeders (Italian) feed their dogs. Somehow Neos don't seem to do well on any extruded dogfood for long. I have landed up cooking for mine and they are doing so much better now. Understand that most of the extruded dogfood companies test their foods on dogs that are far more athletic and have higher energy needs than most Neos. Do yourself a favor and get a copy of Sherilyn Allen's book, The Official Book of the Neapolitan Mastiff. I'm sure it will answer a lot of your questions. Good luck!

Thanks, Gillian.
I'm beginning to think that is true about what you said. I've heard about the book by Ms. Allen. It seems to be the "must have" book for all Neo owners. I have only been able to find it on ebay for around $500(?), but I'll keep on searching. Have you posted any pics of your babies on here, I would love to see them.

Thanks.

Please go to this website. www.metropetservices.com dont know where you live in Texas but I live in Fort Worth. They sale Eagle Pack. They also have free delivery. They are in the DFW metroplex. I dont know who told you that Eagle Pack was illegal to sale in Texas. That is a lie.

Some Eagle Pack formulas (the large breed ones) are not available for sale in Texas. It has something to do with the levels of glucosamine in the food. Glucosamine is not an approved feed additive, and it is not GRAS (generally recognized as safe) for use in pet food. Texas is one of the strictest states on feed sales and labeling.

Well they sale it here in DFW Texas. Check the site if you dont believe me. Large & Giant breed is on there.
Yeah, the holistic large and giant breed adult is on there. It might be allowed. You can look at the original large and giant breed puppy here http://www.eaglepack.com/Pages/SP_LGPuppy.html and it says at the bottom This product is not available in retail stores in the state of Texas.

And I may be wrong about it being the amount of glucosamine, but that's the reason I've been given before.

Yeah,
that was what the lady at the place said. That she couldn't order the large breed puppy food. She couldn't remember why it wasn't legal in Texas.
