Not a fan of EVO
"EVO- The Ancestral Diet Meets Modern Nutrition" I "love" that slogan. Now which part...the ancestral or the modern...does the cottage cheese fall into??? Did the ancestors of the modern day dog get cows to lay down and let them suckle them? LOL Which is better...ancestral (natural) or modern??? Have you noticed how many manufacturers of pet food are now making a "Naturals" line? What took them so long? Does that make their old lines "Unnaturals"? Uh, yup.
But seriously, many of you have seen me speak out against EVO on this forum and it is purely because of the cottage cheese, a totally unnatural ingredient and potentially VERY harmful one. Cottage cheese is loaded with casein, one of the most dangerous dietary proteins on the planet.
Please do a search for "casein" or casein dangers" to see what is known about this ugly glycoprotein. The lectins of dairy are among the worst, especially alpha s-1 casein, which has been linked to numerous "autoimmune" diseases, including type one diabetes, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. Yet another medical study was published last month showing that our children who get cow milk in the first 5 days of life have a 40-50 times (not percent) higher rate of type one diabetes. Wow! Thank God (literally) that we took the milk coating off the puppy and kitten chows.
Again, milk is not the number one allergen for nothing. BUT goat milk is a different thing, with its low casein (0-2%) content. Cow milk is a whopping 80-86% CASEIN and cottage cheese is loaded with it. (Click on the little box next to cottage cheese on the EVO Website and it tells you how cottage cheese is made. They're right!)
Once again, I employ you to write Innova and ask them to get rid of the cottage cheese. There is NO reasons for it to be in there...none,zip, zilch. AND, that calcium level you are all worried will then be lower. But as it is, I wouldn't worry too much about the 3.3 calcium in EVO. The cottage cheese will "help" to block the absorption of that calcium anyway. It is an epidemiological FACT that the countries that drink the most milk have the worst and highest rate of osteoporosis. Casein blocks the absorption of calcium...unless you are a cow and can ferment it....in the same fashion that milk blocks the absorption of drugs ("Don't take with milk", right???)
Cow milk is for cows. Goat milk is for goats...AND everyone else. It is the "universal foster milk" and that is due to its low casein content.
I hope this helps,
John
(Now, please go write Innova and others and tell them to stop making our dogs sick. Frankly, these pet food companies are making me lose my patience...and my patients.)
