I feed kirkland to Blaze. he does really well on it. I have tried so many brands of food, but it seems like he gets upset stomaches very easily. On kirkland it seems to keep him going pretty good. No bad gases for the most part. Its a good price I get 40lbs for 20 bucks. Lasts me about 6 weeks. I think its a great food for the price. His coat is very soft on it, and shiny. Stoles are not loose like they were on other foods. Like I said his doggy gas has gotten so much better aswell.

Ok, bought a 40lb bag of Kirkland's adult lamb and rice formula. Zaphod weighs 54lbs and I estimate he should be eating about 6-8 cups a day until he's up to at least 75lbs.

He had to switch more or less cold turkey since I'm almost out of science diet. We'll see how he does.

I tried Kirkland and tho I wanted it to work out well it didn't. I have it narrowed down to the beet pulp...mine simply don't do well on anything with that in there. They did better on the Exceed which is the Sam's club version....but best on what we do now, Nutro or Nature's recipe.

WOW :yikes: 6-8 cups a day of food is a ton, i Thunder weighs just 60lbs and he gets 4 cups a day at most. cinni is about 35lbs so she only gets like 3-4 cups per day we feed Iams ( do not argue with my choice to feed my dogs, i will not listen) and they do great, coats are nice and smooth they "go" like 2 times a day, plus they get COOKED chicken, hamburger and such with it.

Zaphod is severely underweight and she's trying to get him healthy.

For the record, my "never-stop moving" extremely active 35lb Border Collie only eats around 2 cups/day. 3-4 cups is sounds like a lot for an adult 35lb dog!

Agreed. Meg is about the same size, and on the go all day. When she is on kibble, she gets a rounded 1/3 of a cup twice a day. RD's dog is certainly a different situation - he clearly needs weight added, not just maintained like most of our dogs.

I can't wait to see pictures of him with a bit more weight on!

Heck, my pretty active 53 pound Aussie only eats about 2 cups a day! My 75lb Lab gets about 3 cups/day. There's a lot to be said for a GOOD food.

My 55 lb. bulldog only gets 1.5 cups per day. She's pretty lazy and doesn't require much food, but if she were more active, I couldn't see giving her more than 2 cups per day.

I guess caloric density and digestibility really do matter;)

I've switched to Canidae and though the large bags are hard for me to handle , it's worth the difference in price . He gets 3 cups a day ( he's 95#s ) plus about 1/8 cup of " Mommy stuff " ... cottage cheese , or veggies or canned food . My bad , but he loves his meals . I top with water and mix ..... he needs to smell something yummy , I feel ......he probably doesn't need it ! Must take him in to check his weight !! I don't want to kill him with kindness and with his curly hair , he's hard to eyeball .

Middie eats 3 cups of Innova a day.. but I'm trying to put weight on him, technically he should only be eating 2 cups a day. (He's 45 lbs and so far he hasn't gained any weight. ARGH. Where does it all GO?)

TOTW here is more expensive than Evo... how are any of you saving money on it?

My Beagles get 1 1/2-2c per day. That's typical of most of the breed...
WOW, Beagles must have high metabolisms...my 75lb Doberman is only eating 2 cups a day!

Nolu... is Middie a really hard-bodied dog? Let me tell you... I've been trying to put weight on Ronin for more than two years now, and his body just will not gain anything extra. Doesn't matter what he eats, how frequently he eats or how much he gets - his body naturally stays extremely lean, what some migh trcall "agility weight", "hunting weight", or "game weight". I always laugh when people say, "he looks great, but he'd smooth out and do better in the ring if you just put about 5 more pounds on him... " YEA RIGHT! Let's see YOU try! ;)

IMO some dogs are just hard-bodied and very lean. Ronin is one of them... and from Middie's photos... I wouldn't be surprised if he turned out to be one too.

OMG I must be severely overfeeding Sam. She eats at least 8-10 cups of food a day. She is 7 months old and she is always hungry. She isnt overweight by anymeans. She is a medium sized dog. I have no idea how much she weighs b/c last time i took her to the vet she was a lot smaller then she is now. She was like 4 months old.

:yikes: What type of food? A dog's appetite is NOT a representation of their actual need for food or hunger. Dogs always want food because they are opportunistic feeders. In the wild, they have to eat when food is available or they go without. If I fed my dogs based on their want and interest in food they would eat until they were dead, lol! Never feed your dog just because it's willing to eat!
