I had a post here yesterday that turned from potty habits to the subject of food, but when I ask what was the best puppy/dog food the post did not get replies.

So I am asking again.

Evidentally the Nutro my sil gave us is not a good option.

This is a trickier question that you might think. Each dog has their own nutritional "personality" and what works great for one dog may not work as well for another. There is, of course, differing levels of quality, as you are finding out.

Example: I love and feed Innova Adult to my Aussie. He does awesome on it; great coat, good stools, not a lot of shedding. It's a great food for him. I'm thinking of rotating in a bag of somethign else here when I next go to buy dog food, but I haven't decided what yet.

My Rottie mix did great on it for a while, then it became apparent we needed to try something else for her. She was switched to Nutro Lamb and Rice (not my decision) and certain things improved--mainly her stools firmed up and she didn't eat as much grass. But Nutro isn't the greatest quality and her coat dulled, she shed a ton and just didn't "feel" right, so now she is on Natural Balance Lamb and Rice and getting her coat and muscle tone back, and the shedding has reduced drastically.

Some brands that are of great quality and have a variety of formulas are about all we can recommend as far as "the best" (these are in no particular order besides how they came to mind):

Innova EVO
Innova
Timberwolf Organics
Canidae
Solid Gold
Eagle Pack
Natural Balance
