Is it possible for my puppy to be in heat at 5 months old? She is a maltipoo with an umbilical hernia, but my vet told me to wait until she was 7 months old to schedule her neutering so she can be big enough to handle to surgery and fix the hernia as well. I think she may be in heat because when I brought her to the dog run, all of the male dogs were attracted to her and jumped her. Could she possibly be pregnant if they were puppies too?

Do you see any other signs of a heat cycle?
Blood dicharge, swelling of the vulva ect...
Its possible she is having what we call a silent heat. One that has no signs of a normal heat but is a heat cycle none the less. You can take her to the vet and have a progesterone test done at different day intervals.

Hi sure a dog can come into season at 5 months. We sold a dog to a idiot at that age and he would come over on the occaision to visit with doggie at his side. Well the one day I looked as the dog and stated to him you know she is in heat. He said what. Yeah I hope that she is not in the same cage as Sergent. He said not at all. Well he would come by 3 weeks latter. As soon as Sheba came bounding out of the car and ran to me. Then turn and wag her tail I would just drop to my knee's. Guess what my babie would be bred at 6 months of age. Her vulva was streached to her pasterns. I looked at the owner and stated Sergent bred her. What? He said?

Well the poor girl would become a mom at 8 months old and totally not fair to her. Had I had the right contract signed the dog would have been returned to me in a heart beat and altered right away.

No baby needs to make babies. They are to young and imature. I just hope that your dog is not bred. I bet your hoping the same. Just keep her away from the males. Take her to the vet if you are that worried. It would ease your mind. Tell us what happens

Cindr I would have let that guy have a peice of my mind for sure!
Its hard when you are first starting out to have things just right. Theres alot of learn as you go. Having a mentor certainly helps with this.
I havent had that problem yet and hope I never do. Although all my pups come with a LR but that isnt exactly going to stop an accident from happening. Accident I can see but ignorance I cant!

I just made an appt with my vet. So far she doesn't have any signs of heat such as swollen vulva or teats or staining. I'll keep you posted. Cross your fingers that she isn't pregnant because I definitely don't want my baby having babies.

I'm sure it is.

I've never had a female dog, immpossible almost I know we prefer males. Back to your question, my mother that's had previous female dogs told me that it is possible and my mother had one female that got in heat at 5 months young.
