Zoe apparently doesn't like anything in her crate, because she threw up at 4am and we discovered she had chewed up and probably ate some of the carpet in it (we originally had dog padding you get at pet stores, but she chewed that up too). This morning she has no energy, and when I took her out she had "the runs".

She did eat a little plain chicken, so I guess that's a good sign. Would it help to give her just a teaspoon of Pepto Bismal? Should I just leave her alone and keep my eye on her? Please don't tell me to call the vet, because every time I do they say "bring her in" and it costs me $49 to walk through the door.

Any suggestions appreciated!!

hey,
I wouldn't worry about her eating it, tbh Holly my 6 month old jack russell, has eaten so many things and i used to freak out a lot about it and worry. She has eaten some carpet before and she is fine, the fact that Zoe threw it up is a good sign as its not stuck in her tummy or anything and all the vets would have done was make her bring it back up. I think just offer her her favourite food and keep and eye on her. If she gets worse then obviously take her to the vets but tbh I think she should be okay. Let me know how it goes :)

Well, Brady just had to have surgery for eating plastic, I say better safe than sorry, right? But his stomach was having convulsions trying to get it up, but if she ate a lot, chances are she won't be able to pass it through her intestines. I just saw x-rays on Brady's stomach and intestines, and you can tell how small of an object could pass through. The vet says it is a much easier and better surgery if it is just in the stomach. I am not trying to freak you out, but I just went through so much last week with this, I say better safe than sorry. Because he acted fine once we went to the vet, if she didn't do x-rays, we would have never known.

I would at least call your vet and ask. If it blocks things up, it is a very serious situation.

Thanks for the posts. She seems to be doing much better. I did call the vet who told me if she vomits again (which she hasn't) to bring her in. She hasn't eaten much today, and still has the runs, but her energy seems to be back. She just chased a bunch of poor ducks down by the lagoon. I'll continue to keep watching her, though.
