Well, this probably doesn't interest many people but I decided to go back to school and become a teacher.

Currently I have a diploma in journalism and a handful of 'extra' first and second year classes.

I'm also a few classes short of having my degree in journalism.

And in order to get into the Baccalaureate in Education program I need to have finished my degree because it's a condensed 3 semester program. BUT the catch is that I need to have something teachable like a minor in English. lol

It gets very confusing but my Journalism degree with be a Bachelor of Applied Journalism which I can not attach a minor to so I need to study for a Bachelor of Arts with a double minor or a major/minor or a triple minor

And I've decided to get a double minor in English and Geography. Or possibly English and Political Science. But that is a four year program so I was thinking this is going to take forever!! ha ha

BUT I just found out that it's very likely I will get a 60 credit 'block' towards my BA degree so I just need to do the 30 credits for each minor and I'm done.

Meaning... in two years I will have a Bachelor of Applied Journalism and a Bachelor of Arts with a Double minor. And three semesters after that I will have a Bachelor of Education

I find out about this credit 'block' sometime this week. The advisor and registrars office said it's very likely I will get it so cross your fingers!! :D :D :D

ME TOO! We can talk teacher classes together this year :)

I start in the fall to get my masters of education (secondary math). I need a handful more math classes, as my undergrad was in information systems (business school), but really not that many. I'll be student teaching starting January of 2011.

What level do you want to teach? I think I want to go with freshman/sophomores in high school. I love love love algebra/geometry/trig, and think that's a fun age group.

I'm focusing on secondary education. High school english and social studies from grades 8 - 11 and either geography or history at the grade 12 level. That's the plan anyway.

It's very exciting. I can't believe I'll be able to do it all so quickly. Well, I shouldn't get ahead of myself. It's not written in stone yet. But in three and a half years I'll have three degrees. Exciting! I'm not sure if I will be able to get a job that following January or if we have the funds I might take a family vacation to celebrate. :D

I really can't make up my mind between history or geography as the second minor. I don't need to decide right away but soonish. I think they are both really interesting. I think history would be a bit easier but then I think geography might help me in other things i want to do. hmmm

Oooh, exciting. I was going to go into secondary ed-English before I decided on law school and all that. Wish I had done it now since I've been in school a million years and not sure what I'm doing anymore and could have been working since I was 22. Now I'd like to teach in college

Yeah it's hard to figure out what you want to do. How long have you been in school yet? The university here has an masters program for teachers just on the weekends which I think I might want to do. Then I can either be a principal or teach at the university level as well. My dad teaches part time at a university now and saws that he makes more money doing that then he ever did working full time, as a principal, with maximum credentials and over 25 years in the same school district  So... that would be nice :D lol

I went to undergrad for 4 years and got a political science degree, law school for 3 years and got a JD, and now I'm going to be starting my second year of a Master's social work program in the fall and will be done. I looked into a teaching degree instead of social work but it was much more complicated and a year longer. I could teach in private school or college now...I applied at a community college to teach american government but it's hard to get hired without experience...and can't get experience without getting hired. Oh well

Oh that's tough. You would have been able to get a education degree in three semesters here I think. I'm hoping that I'll look good on paper when I'm done because I'll have three degrees, experience teaching ESL, conversational Spanish, photography skills (help with year book/school paper), etc. I think the market is a bit easier now though because all the boomers are retiring.

Congrats Saje! That sounds wonderful, and I know you will do great with kids :)

I considered teaching myself at one time since I do like to work with kids..........I would aim more for elementary aged children personally :)
