I just cant believe it!! My boyfriend bought a pregnancy test out of a fluke, and sure enough it is positive... So we went to the Doctor, and Yup; I am definately pregnant!... This is so crazy!.. I never thought this would/could happen to me :D .. We are very happy, and excited, cant say I'm not nervous.. I have a billion questions to ask the doctor the next time we go in lol.

PET RELATED QUESTION!!

Now I have a few questions for you guys, How did your dogs react to you being pregnant? Mine have been REALLY affectionate, following me everywhere, always laying right be side me.. So Another question for all the members who have had children with dogs. Did your dog get jealous when the baby arrived? I'm VERY concerned about this. I am also worried about my Pitbull, Daisy. She has never really liked Children/or strange people, and she barks at them.. I DONOT want this to be an issue, but I think we may have the biggest problem with her not liking the new baby.. Any suggestions?

First thing to do (even though this is way later) After you have the baby, you want to take a blanket that you had the baby wrapped in and take it to your dog so they can get the babies scent, that way when you bring baby home they will already associate her/his scent with the family and it would make the dog feel less threatened. Even let them sleep with the blanket and rub the blanket on them. Hope this helps.

I wish I could help you more with the dog situation. I have 5 dogs but when we brought our daughter home 9 months ago we only had three dogs. I can't say they even noticed. With pugs, as long as their needs are met they could care less who comes in and out, lol!

Babies are such a blessing. You are really in for the experience of your life...

Can you get a tape recording of a baby crying or something similar to that sound to get the dogs used to the baby? That helps too. Hang on and i'll think of some other things i done, hehe.

*sigh* and Buckshot once again corrupts an innocent thread...

But congrats! Are you and your boyfriend planning on settling down together?

I would suggest getting a baby doll that makes noise (crying crying and cooing). And carry that around with you in a couple months (closer to your due date not neccasarily right now). Maybe look into getting a behaviourist to come and help out with your dog after the baby comes. I think it's just something your dog would have to come to terms with. Ofcourse you know never leave a baby alone with a dog, especially one that is nervous of children. Our dogs love both our kids, my 2 year old and our 9 month old but she had some...resentment issues towards our 9 month old when we first brought him home. She got over it really quickly though but then agian she's always been around smaller kids, our daughter was 1 years old when we got our lab (who was 8 weeks old when we got her).

Congratulations............that's wonderful news!!!

My dogs have always been fine during pregnancy and when the babies were born. I didn't have Chloe though then...not sure how she would have done!

Congratulations !!! I never had any problems with my dogs . If you do question your Pittie , I'd get him around as many babies as possible . You could muzzle if their Mommys are worried . You hold the babe's too and make over them . Your boy friend should be there too to re assure . Only you know your dogs.....I would start this now . Most things can be done closer to delivery time . Right now you can sense what could be , and seek help .

Congrats!! How exciting for you! :) (get lots of sleep now so you're all stocked up............hehehehehe)

My dogs were always fine with the new baby, just be sure the dogs understand that baby is 3rd in line of command, and I think the blankie idea is a really good one.

Also, you need to decide if the dogs are going to be allowed in babies room, and start teaching them the manners you expect now........ie..do not enter with out permission......etc.

Sleeping babies + playing doggies = sad mommies
