This is just me ranting.
Please, do NOT turn this into a "Muzzle your pit bull" thread.
I'm sure you all remember me ranting about the lady across the street from this empty lot of triangular land in my neighborhood. She's the one that owns the shih-tzu that I often see off leash walking on this triangular lot of land, peeing all over the area, and barking its head off at anyone who walks by, like people walking by are messing with HER territory. So, now we have an off leash dog on public property that thinks it owns the property.
I have told the owner of this dog that my dog does NOT LIKE other dogs, especially loose ones that run up into her face/space.
I told this lady this over a year ago.
I have had to call AC on this lady because we are constantly rushed by this dog who is clearly and constantly off its property. AC can only go there and tell her to keep her dog on her property. In order for her to get fined, I would have to call the police, too.
I KNOW I'm not the only one complaining about this dog. I was talking to my neighbor the other day who owns a Great Pyrenees, and she was asking me if I was familiar with the lady who lets her "little white dog" loose to harass the neighbors walking by. She was telling me that, Charlie, her dog, would NOT like that little dog running up to him and it worries her.
Anyway, so Ben and I are out walking last night because we are doing this walking exercise thing. We take different routes around the neighborhood as I feel much more comfortable walking Ella when he's with me, when it comes to walking her in different parts of the neighborhood.
NOT a SINGLE loose dog the entire walk, until we are on our last lap, on our way home. By this time it's dark out, but there is a street light that is on the end of the triangular lot of land, that lights up the street next to it. I hear a dog running before it ever barks. I kind of panic because I turn in the direction of the sound, but I cannot see anything. Finally, this rushing, off leash dog hits the light and I see it. I blast it with my air horn and it stops. I yell at it to back off and go home. I turn around and we start walking forward again. It starts running after us, AGAIN. So, I turn around and blast it AGAIN with my air horn. It stops and I yell for it to go home. It runs after us AGAIN. So, I hand Ben Ella's leash, and I start to walk after this dog. I see the freakin' owner, standing there staring at us on the other side of the lot. Just standing there.
So, now I'm even more p!ssed. So...I yell at her. I don't like yelling at my neighbors or causing a riff with any of them. But I kind of lost it. I kind of yelled really loudly at her, "Keep your dog ON a leash, or I WILL call AC."
I didn't drop any f-bombs on her...because Ben took care of that for us...
"We have a f-ing right to walk our dog without your f-ing dog assaulting us on our walks all the f-ing time!"
I know, attractive, right? Ben has a lower tolerance for this stuff than I do.
But that dog has literally come within inches of him and Ella when they've been bike riding.
So...now we can check air horns off the list as things that work to ward off dogs.
Coop,
where did you get your walking stick that you use to walk Orson with? What does it look like?
ETA: How did Ella react while the dog was rushing us? She didn't even pay attention to the dog. She was walking forward, away from the dog. She was on a walkie, and she wanted to continue walking.
