A few months after I got my tatoo I noticed that everywhere it was red, the skin was raised a bit and itched a little. I called the place where I got my tatoo and they told me that some people have allergies to the different dye colors, she said that it is rare but does occur. She said that I have to come back to see her and she will re tatoo over the red area with saline solution. OUCH!!! Today it looks really bad and part of it is scabbing over. I better get it take care of. I really bums me out because the red is so pretty. :(

I don't know about tatoo's, but I would get a doctor's opinion before I let them inject me with something else.
Good Luck,
Julie.

is the point of the saline to wash out the die? if they are injecting it don't see what good it would do unless to dilute or spread it out, i agree see a doc first or at least call some other tattoo places and see what they would do

I think the point of the saline is to just clean out and open the area up. I spoke to one of the physicians that I work for and he said that sounds like reasonable treatment to him.

I think it's foolish to fool around with them. I can admire some, but mainly the one's I don't see much of ! To me over tatooing is like over studding. More isn't better. Now Grammy will zip her lip .!

It's ok Grammy....I understand how you feel and feel the same way myself. I had this tatoo as a rememberance to my Mom and would have probably never have had one otherwise. I do have to admit that I am enjoying it...up until now. Hopefully I'll be able to get it taken care of without to much problem.

P.S. everyone....I'm far from a "tatoo mama".:D I just don't want you to have that picture in your mind of me. I'm pretty ultra-conservative.

I don't see the harm in saline.

It's just salt.
I know what saline is :) .

But still, I would get a doctors opinion on treatment before a tatoo artists. No offense...I mean maybe its not an allergic reaction, maybe it is infected around a certain area. Maybe it could be a reaction to the red dye.......but what does saline actually do? Does it actually remove the dye?? Or spread it out further?? If it removes the dye, why don't more people get the injection on unwanted tats instead of getting multiple laser treatments or other removal methods. I would get a second opinion from someone experienced in the area, before any treatments. Maybe a doctor would have a better method of treatment??? Just my 2 cents...:)

LOL!

Dena, I agree with getting your doctor to look at it first. The tatoo artist could just be doing a quick coverup for something they might have done to cause the reaction.

This happened to me. I am a big fan of tattoos and have 3 currently and plan to get more.
They will stay in easy-to-cover spots until I get married so I have clean arms in my wedding photos.
What cleared it up for me was an antibiotic cream. The stuff I used was called fucidine.
I would try to go that way before having the saline, which will wash colour out. The cream will get rid of any infection caused by the allergy but your tattoo will stay vibrant.

This is something I worry about when I finally venture into color tattoos this spring. Right now I have a black and white tattoos on each of my shoulderblades, and they were so easy on the healing and no reactions what so ever. This spring I am planning on gettnig an arm band of violets put around my left bicep - as a rememberance to myself of sticking by what i believe in as far as fidelity to my mate, and the love people have taught me.

Yes, there is personal symbolism in every tattoo i have or am planning on having done.

Thanks for posting this!
