Please keep in mind, this all comes from someone with very minimal computer skills; I have no idea if what I'm requesting is even possible, but I'm curious.
I've had two situations lately where enough bothersome posts have driven me to the point of walking away from the board. Last time it lasted several months. I finally wandered back, put several "repeat offenders" on my ignore list, and started to settle back in.
What I've noticed is that putting someone on ignore really does no good. I still see the (often bothersome) thread titles. I still see much of what they post in other threads, because when someone quotes them, it shows.
What I'm wondering is if there is some way to do away with that. Perhaps not show thread titles of people you have on ignore, or 'blocking' quotes from their posts in the posts of other members.
Of course, the easy answers are "don't let their stuff get to you" (easier said then done) or "just walk away" (always an option), but it makes me a bit sad that 2% of the members may be driving away some people who are maybe just a little too sensitive about certain topics to be able to handle it. I still miss several members who left years ago, and heaven knows I missed a lot of people here now when I felt like I couldn't be here for a while.
Random suggestions thrown out for consideration.
