Many many years from now, I may be a dane breeder. ONLY if I could do it correctly, and only to improve upon the breed. I still have far too much to learn, far too much experience to gain, and far too much other stuff going on in my life right now to do it properly.

I would never breed a dog just for the sake of breeding it. I would never breed a mediocre specimen, and I'd **** sure never breed dogs that I didn't know the pedigree of back and forth, up and down.

What danes need right now is folks breeding them to improve them. There are far too many health and temperament issues in my breed right now to justify 90% of the breedings that take place. I would never want to contribute to the demise of my breed.

This thread gave me the warm fuzzies, seeing how much you all love your breeds. :)

For me? I wouldn't breed, period. I know that's probably killing the thread.. but I never want to be responsible for that many lives, so utterly responsible, as a breeder has to be. It terrifies me.

I'd never beable to be a breeder. I'd be too tempted to keep all the puppies but to answer these questions

1. Shetlies - they are my first love. Don't get me wrong I adore my BC boys but Shelties were my first love.
2. Rottis - I've always adored them as a breed.

Aussies - But probably only one litter because I'd end up keeping them all, lol!

Second place gets a tie between Borders and Rotties.

well chis will always be my first and foremost,
but im now looking into chinese cresteds...this breed has just won me over they are amazing little dogs, they do have some issues that need to be worked on (teeth, skin problems) but definatly a breed that should live on forever...

I'm a Chow Chow fan.
So that would be my first choice.

Thai Ridgebacks and Tibetan Mastiffs (as well as Bearded Tibetan Mastiffs) would be my other choices.

i have no desire to breed anything. i love my pit bulls, but i'd have a very very hard time sending my puppies out into the world. it's just a scary scary place and time to be a pit bull, and i think the responsibility and the fear would overwhelm me.
Good point. it would be disaster for a pit puppy to fall into the wrong hands now days. its sickening.

Maybe border collies, i think a really well bred border is so beautiful.

Also, i'm quite partial to bullmastiffs (we do NOT get enough pictures of Pearl around here).

I would love to breed and raise spaniels in the classic way for the British gamekeepers/kennel operators did it (as I understand it).

The litter is kept together much longer than 8 weeks (6mo+ since its intended that most of the dogs will stay at the hunter's kennel) and they go everywhere. Mom and pups wander throughout the fields behind the owner/trainer learning how it all works, eventually moving up to flushing birds and such.

Maybe Clumbers, they have small litters so with decent grounds, I could do it. (vs having 10 Dalmatians if they were kept in a similar manner ;))

none because I would never dream to be a breeder at all because I am very into animal rescue.. I don't care how responsible of a breeder you are, I will not buy from you or any breeder for that matter. I will ALWAYS adopt, always. there's too many dogs needing homes as it is, I have no desire to be a breeder ever.

I think its great that people rescue. More people need to! I just want to say that buying from responsible breeders is just as important as rescuing, in a way. Buying from good breeders keeps dogs out of shelter, because a breeder should ALWAYS take back a puppy who the buyer no longer wants or can take care of. Bybs are the reason why so many dogs are in shelters.

Breed preservation is another important reason why there needs to be responsible breeders out there. Bybs are only producing a mirror image of what the breed is supposed to be, and sometimes not even that. They are destroying breeds.

I doubt I'll ever breed, but if I did, I'd breed Tollers. And I'd focus way more on instinct and working ability than many are doing now.
