The dog has allergies and is a working dog. The kennel told him to use the single source protein and he chose Royal Canin duck and potato or the venison one. I told him from what I've been reading he should add more protein to his diet. He doesn't believe me and says the dog is doing fine on the RC. He won't even give the natrual balance food rolls as a treat, his reward for finding explosives is a ball. The dog is only 3 yrs old.
Is he right that the RC is sufficient or should he be supplementing the dog food w/more protein, like from canned or something?
And if he should add food, how do I get him to see the light?

With a food allergic dog, I don't think the NB food rolls would be a good idea. They contain wheat and some other ingredients that may be a problem.

What is the protein and fat content of the food being fed?

Tough question! If these are dogs actively working on a force/ bomb squad, then they will be required to keep them lean. The duck and potato is often reccommended for skin problems. So, if there are no skin problems on the new food, then there's really no arguement. From the pictures, both dogs are very lean, both have poor conformation, slightly roach backed, one cow hocked, the other toeing out and rocked back on feet. If these are working dogs, I'd start supplimenting with glucosamine, MSM and a few others now, to help with possible structural problems that may arise with maturity.

If his dogs are doing fine on it, I don't see a problem. Why don't you just tell him to add the canned IVD Venison & ducK?

It appears I could not have put my foot further in my mouth! My apologies!!! I thought bomb squad dogs, picture of shepards included, thought these were the dogs you were concerned about, ect. Since these are I'm sure cherished pets, not police dogs, I again apologize!

I did mention that but he says his dry food is fine. I thought by reading all the posts here that the single source protein wasn't enough especially for working dogs and yes he's a patrol/bomb k9.

That is just my signature to show my babies off.
I laughed.
My boy is handsome and my girl is regal. I'm not breeding either of them and they are the joy of my life.

If he has allergies then he needs a single protein source.
