Some of you may have read in another thread that my Christmas plans are out the window (thanks, Nova!). I was going to be spending a wonderful week in Iceland with my husband but instead I'll be home alone (with pup and cat) in Victoria, BC.

I've never spent Christmas completely alone before. But I'm actually looking forward to it. I'm big on rituals and I'm looking forward to making some plans just for me!

But I need some suggestions. Anything! What Christmas-y snacks should I buy/make? Christmas movies? Solo Christmas activites?

I think I might finally get my tattoo just before Christmas. That might be neat. I'd like to fill my days with a few things to look forward to, instead of being lonely. Maybe I should decorate the heck out of the house (we never do that).

Any and all suggestions welcome! This will be an adventure. :D

When alone on a holiday I usually bought a Zig saw puzzle . Set it up where you can watch Christmas TV. A Christmas evening service is nice too . Save your Christmas cards and open them Christmas morning . Doggie Christmas presents help too !

I like that Christmas Card idea Grammy

I would decorate ... at least maybe a small tree with some lights. I love to sit in the living room watching christmas movies with just the tree as light.

Movies... How the Grinch stole Christmas is a favorite of mine, the classic rudolph, It's a wonderful Life, A Charlie Brown christmas, The santa Clause movies, Home alone (another favorite of mine and perfect since it's about being home alone hehe).

Play some christmas music.

make youself a nice Christmasy dinner except with a small game hen instead of a turkey or something :)

I wonder how many puzzle pieces Nova could manage to eat before I noticed... :D

Ohhh..Christmas service might be nice. I'm not religious, but who doesn't love all that music and cheeriness and candles. :)

I would definitely decorate! We usually make snickerdoodles and tollhouse cookies (from scratch) for Christmas. Nothing like sitting down with a tin of chocolate chip cookies, a tall glass of milk and a classic Christmas movie (White Christmas, Miracle on 34th Street, A Christmas Story, The Bishop's Wife are some of my favorites...)

I'd bake and fix a dinner of things that you love that maybe your husband isn't so fond of. And then do everything else suggested already. :)

Take your dog for an evening walk in an area of the city where people REALLY light up in the spirit of things. Preferably with snow falling ;) Oh wait you will be in victoria.. :rofl1::rofl1: no snow for you!

Good idea Dekka. do you have a local park that does a tree lighting ceremony? If so maybe you could go there to walk the dogs and enjoy the lights.

Even with family , I always loved to walk our with the dogs at midnight and visit the horses . Especially when blessed with a nice snow fall . I'd think of the olden days and my passed childhood . A wonderful time to reflect .

I'm probably the least religious person I know, but when I lived in the UK I used to love to go to the gospel church for their Christmas service.. I LOVE Gospel music it was always a very joyous occasion and I have never been so welcomed by anyone else previously or since!

I usually start decorating my house on the 1st of December just to get it finished in time for the 24th.. ;) Go wild with the decorations, make things, go get Holly and Ivy from the woods (a good excuse to take the dogs for a tramp in the forest), dry Oranges in the oven, and hang them with Cinnamon sticks for that authentic christmasy smell..

I too was supposed to be spending Christmas alone, I was looking forward to my huge plate of seafood, but now it seems that the masses are decending on me, and instead of being entirely alone with the animals, we are going to be 12 for dinner!!! :yikes: Bang goes my quite christmas! Especially seeing as Florent's Neice and 2 nephews are coming! LOL!

Or perhaps you could go and help at a homeless shelter.. I can't think of anyone else who could get you more in the christmas spirit, you would be surrounded by people, it would be a kind jesture and it's what the holidays are all about.. Giving.. ;)

You could come visit my family. It's only a ferry ride + 2-3 hour drive. We could even meet you at the Blackball so you wouldn't have to pay for your car to come over. You could even bring Nova if you want. :D

Buy your animals little things and wrap them and have them "open" them. Its always funny! Get some good movies to watch. Good smelling candles you like and music! Doesn't have to be holiday music either btw! Is there something you could volunteer for on that day like a food kitchen or something? That gets you around people and would warm your heart!!! Or could you buy some presents and hand deliver them to people in need or your neighbors... or bake goods you have made? I don't know what your funds look like but I think that would be so great! Maybe you could bake some goods and deliver them to a home, so many are forgotten about on Christmas and have family that leave them high and dry. I could go on :D

Awwww. :D:D

That's such a sweet offer!

I have to say, though, that travelling around Christmas would probably be a nightmare!! And I wouldn't want to impose. But thank you thank you thank you!

Where on earth are you going that's going to have sun?? Sure as hell won't be anywhere near Victoria. :D

Sounds like a GREAT idea though! I bet it'll be awesome and stressfree!

hahaha...oh god no. I'll be lucky is there isn't a downpour. At the very least it'll be windy and wet. :(

The one winter we did get a lot of snow in Victoria (2 years ago), I was in Iceland...where it hardly snowed at all!! I missed it all. :(
