I'm not happy right now. I want to download a movie, but can't until my new external hard drive case comes so I can free up space on the main computer. Look how FULL this hard drive is. lol

Why didn't you partition that drive?

Anyway...so you can't possibly free up any space on that thing? Also, why do you have to wait for your external enclosure to arrive before freeing up space?

You should turn off that indexing service. Windows Indexing Services creates a searchable database that makes system searches for words and files progress much faster – however, it takes an enormous amount of hard drive space as well as a significant amount of extra CPU cycles to maintain the system. Most users will want to disable this service to release the resources for use by the system.

Have you run the Crap Cleaner and CleanUp programs I listed?
;)

1. The last time I partitioned a hard drive the computer ran like crap until it gave out. Stupid gateways.

2. Nope I want everything that is on it.

3. I have to wait for it because you can not put a laptop hard drive in a desktop computer without an adapter witch I would have to wait for too.

You're blaming your computer's death on a partitioned hard drive? Hmm...

I'm well aware of that.
;)

So is this full drive your desktop or laptop?

I have ran disk clean up but it only freed up about 50 MB. I don't have alot of the programs that you have listed because #1 when someone comes on a forum and with in the first 50 post they tell people to do this and that with thier computer I dont do it because the links could be to virus's and other stuff. #2 I like to maintane this computer on my own and i must say it runs just fine, but the hard drive is almost full. lol

Nope I am not blaming the death of the gateway on a partitioned hard drive. It lasted about 2 years after I did it, but it ran like crap right after I did it.

This is a desktop computer.

Did you partition the drive AFTER you had Windows installed with 3rd party software?

Disk cleanup is pretty much garbage.

Suit yourself...but I can tell ya that they are all totally legit programs that can help you out a lot.

If running "fine" is acceptable enough for you, then so be it. In all honesty (don't take this as me being a jerk...just being truthful), you're not doing such a good maintenance job if you suddenly find yourself with barely enough free space to run Windows.

Have you disabled the indexing service yet?

You are not being a jerk. lol To me the word fine is running fine and with out errors and with out freezing up. I noticed that I had about 5 gigs left about a week ago and order the external case then. I'm supose to get it on monday. Have not disabled it because the only problem i am having is low disk space. lol

So you're going to back up files to your laptop drive? Why not just add a 2nd hard drive to your system?

Disabling the indexing service can free up disk space.

You can get a WD 8mb cache 320GB hard drive for under $130 on newegg and many other sites...I believe Sam's Club has them also. It's not as cheap as $18, but I wanted to catch you up on the latest prices.

I know how the space game goes.

Right now I have an 80 gig hard drive that's busting at the seams. I constantly have to delete games and other crap to install new crap. Very annoying because a few months later I wanna play that game that I deleted and have to delete the other game, it's a vicious cycle.

I have a 200 gig hard drive sitting in the cabinet next to me. But I can't fit it into the case I have right now.

To solve that I bought a new case - which is sitting in my closet - but then realized I don't know how to transfer everything from case A to case B. So now I have to find someone who does know what they're doing and pay them or hope they're nice.

I would get my parents to do it but alas they're 4 hours away. Same for any friends that are computer literate but the distances vary.

I just checked the price on TigerDirect.com which is where I order the external case. After I found TigerDirect I have'nt been to many other sites so I would not know what the prices are on the other sites. Its just that with TigerDirect the customer service is great.
