GAH!!!! I"M SO CONFUSED!!!!

I thought I had this whole puppy thing all together, but I've had too much free time lately and I've been brooding.
-This puppy isnt very good with bit inhibition, and I cant teach him very well because he does not know what a yelp is.
-My mother is moaning and groaning about the house smelling like dog urine, and I feel like starting the housebreaking process all over again, and that means I gnerally must go over the whole house with stain and odor remover.
-This is a typical thing, but in every book I've read, I have to teach him Sit, but its VERY slow. (Nevermind this one, I'm just brooding and being dumb. I know my puppy will NOT learn how to sit in a single day.)

And yeah. Do you think I shoudl restart the whole housebreaking process? And if I do, the thing is, nobody is home twentyfour seven, so we cant take him out after every two hours. I've been glancing at this site today, and it makes me feel like I've done everything WRONG:

http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/housebreaking.htm

Puppies need to relieve themselves approximately six times a day. A puppy should be taken out immediately after each meal since a full stomach puts pressure on the colon and bladder
I leave the food out all day, so he just gobbles up food whenever he wants. Im wondering how often I should feed him. Would 7:00AM, 3:00PM, 6:00PM be okay as a feeding schedule?

It is much harder to housebreak a puppy if he smells is urine in places you do not wish him to relief himself.
So I've already screwed up, because lately Happy has been ignoring the pads and peeing anywhere he wants. I've been ignoring it and simply cleaning it up with simple water. Whenever I catch him peeing on the pad (which is becoming rare-er and rare-er) I grab a treat quickly and praise him. (Actually, I have NEVER caught him peeing on his pad once for the last week or so?) So should I go over the house with stain and odor remover?

I would definitely go over the house with stain and odor remover.

I cant help a whole lot in the house training department, my dog practically housebroke herself.

How old is the puppy now...was it 11 weeks I think I read in another thread?

I think I might try to even the times out a little more you have 8 hours between the first 2 and only 3 til the last one. But thats just me, it might be ok to do it that way.

a set schedule would help you a little i think. atleast then you'll start to know when he'll need to poop. as for the peeing thing. for the WHOLE weekend watch him. if he goes to pee then pick him up WHILE PEEING and carry him over to a pee pad and set him down there. when he is finished praise him. don't wait until he has finished to correct him. catch him in the act and it is easier. then crate him while you are not home. do not put anything absorbent into the bottom of the crate (pillows, blankets) he will not want to go to the bathroom then. when you get home let him oiut. don't get something to drink first, don't stop and chat with family first, let him out. and for the rest of the day watch him. it's going to take time and a lot of effort but you should be able to do it

Just a little tip, If you have tile floors, I got one of those mops with the pads on them that spray disinfectant. Its a miracle. Anytime theres an accident, paper towel it up, and grap the ready to go mop and disinfect. For the carpet or rugs, get some pet spot remover and disinfectant, and repeat above. Since you've only been cleaning with water, you may want to rent(if you dont have one) a rug cleaner and shampoo the carpets. Or mop the whole floor good with some disinfectant. But clean up good after EVERY accident.

And yeah. Do you think I shoudl restart the whole housebreaking process? And if I do, the thing is, nobody is home twentyfour seven, so we cant take him out after every two hours. I've been glancing at this site today, and it makes me feel like I've done everything WRONG
When is somebody home with the puppy? And where is the pup when your not home? Do you have her in a crate, or free roam of the house? IMO a puppy should not be left in a crate for numerous hours a day, and you can't really expect to train her efficiently if your not there to teach her what to do. If you have a room with tile floors in the house, puppy proof it and get a baby-gate if you absolutely can't be at home. Put the peepee pad in there, and when you are home watch every moment to catch her peeing, and put her on it. It probably wont be as effective as you hope b/c its not being reinforced.

The only hours he's left home alone is 9:00 through 3:00.
I dont keep him in a crate because he screams and whines, so durring the hours we're out, we let him roam the house, and when we come in, we put him in the crate, clean up any messes he did around the house, then let him back out and play with him.

Just a question. Would pad-breaking be better, or housebreaking?
Since puppies cant hold it for about 6 hours, I decided to use padding, but then again, he completely ignores it sometiems, or just rips it all up. AND if we were to housebreak, it would be difficult because no one is home 24/7.

I would leave your puppy in a puppy proof room anytime you cannot keep an eye on it. It is much safer for your puppy. I would also feed on a schedule. Definitely clean all the floors with natures miracle to remove the odor and the scent. As long as a dog can smell the pee scent it will keep using that spot to potty.

exactly- baby gates work good for most dogs, and if the dog tears it up and runs around with it...just a suggestion, try putting something heavy on each of the corners. Heavy enough that the dog can't pull it out or pick up your "pad weights". Until you can be home more w/ the pup, try to train him to go on the pads. Then you can start teaching him to go outside when he's mastered the pads.
