I love dogs and all and will ALWAYS have one but I need something else around the house..

I will have fish again when I move into my new house but I want something else ya know??
I dont want reptiles..they just arent very friendly (I had a savanna monitor)
I just really dont know what I want..
Something that is kid friendly because I do have a toddler (is a 15 month old a toddler??)
I need something that isnt too too messy..
and something that isnt too too expensive either..
Any ideas??

15 months is to little for most small animals including kittens unless it is in a tank and totally unaccessable. Please consider the pet trade and it's horrors before you become a participant. www.petfinder.com has many small and furries that are looking for forever homes. That is a wonderful place to look.

No no no!! NO rats...
I can not stand rats..
If I liked rats then I would go in my MILs basement.
I hate their naked tails!!
God it makes me shiver just thinking of them

I don't like rats either. I had to kick a dead one to the garbage a few days ago and it was no fun.

How about a rabbit? I've heard they make wonderful pets. Also, if you have a wild life rescue in your area you can adopt one. Our local WLR takes in rabbits that people no longer want and have many sweeties for adoption. That said I don't know if a rabbit would be safe with a 15 month old. That's probably too young to be gentle, isn't it?

:lol-sign:

Sarah, given your situation, i wouldnt worry about getting another pet at this time. You have too much on your plate to deal with as it is. Even small furry things need more care than you might imagine (not that i actually know, but i am assuming...??)

Why dont you wait until you are all settled down, and your sweet little boy it a bit older? :) Maybe for his 3rd bday or something (not sure of what an ideal age is...) he can pick out a pet?

I agree with Dreeza. You expect a small furry pet to tolerate handling from a young kid?

Is this a pet for you or for your son?

Rabbits are awesome pets but they aren't as easy to keep as people think. www.rabbit.org is the best site on rabbit info and they have a chat room with some people who can help. I love having rabbits but with all the dogs and cats I just don't think I could provide one with all they needed right now. And you definitely have to watch kids around them.

I think you would be best to put your energy into potty training your dog before you think about adding another pet..
