no apparently not. i remember last year my friend went to the kennels in my area to see about rescuing a dog, they refused her and said they wouldnt rehome to an unmarried couple!!!
anyhow, this same kennel have just rehomed a labxrotty pup 14 weeks old, giant, to a 18 year old girl and her silly boyfriend who have only just got a little flat up about 20 flights of stairs, they have had the pup for a week and its never stepped outside the flat. the two go out every night to clubs and sleep all day and the kennels chose this home without first checking. i really want to phone them up and complain, actually first thing tomorrow i will.

people send their loved pets to these kennels when they are unable to care for them anymore with the thought that the kennels will take time and effort in finding the right home for your dog. even if they take this dog back he's going to have had 3 homes in 14 weeks with thehope of finding another. it really gets my back up. when i worked in kennels in the next town we did home checks, vet checks and garden checks, the family were visited 3 times with the dog and only once we were all satisfied did they get the dog home

That poor dog. He really needs a home where the people care about him and not partying all night long. I hope everything works out for him. Keep us informed.

It's possible that you might not be getting the whole story. I would call the kennel (?) and ask them what the situation was. It seems odd that they would turn down one couple for being unmarried (how strange!) and approve another unmarried couple if that truly was the only reason. As for the second couple not taking care of their dog, you should definetely let the kennel know this too. If our shelter finds out that a dog is not being taken care of we do have the right to reclaim the dog at any time. It's hard to believe that they've never let the dog outside in over a week, as who would put up with a dog peeing and pooping in their flat.

Perhaps you chould get invovled with the kennel? Maybe you could volunteer there so that you can get involved in the adoption processes and hopefully make some positive changes in how they run their program. Don't run in hoping to change everything, as that will lead to problems, but get involved and gradually you'll come into a position where you are able to offer advice and they'll be more inclined to listen to your suggestions being a fellow worker. I do agree with you that it is best when shelter's are able to do home visits and vet checks prior to approving adoptions!

All the best.
