So about four weeks ago I was discussing with the occupational therapist what fun holiday themed projects we could do this week with all 8 kids in our class. (I work in a classroom for middle school kids with special needs) The idea of gingerbread house was brought up, and me, being, well ... me, opened my mouth and went on about how much more I liked REAL gingerbread houses as apposed to the fake graham cracker ones. This turned into me volunteering/being volunteered to make 8 count em' 8 from scratch gingerbread house kits to be assembled at school tomorrow! :yikes: So for the past 5 hours I have been mixing, rolling, cutting out and baking gingerbread dough. My house smells oh so yummy but if I ever see another gingerbread I'm going to SCREAM! I'll post pics tomorrow of how they look assembled. Right now they are all in pieces. Man am I beat. My arms hurt, my back hurts, my shoulders hurt...and so help me if someone just eats their gingerbread tomorrow instead of making it into a house they are in SO MUCH TROUBLE! Okay...must. have. sleep. also a big glass of milk to counteract all of the dough I ate :eek: just thought I'd share.

They sure aren't as easy as they sound ..... not a rushed deal for sure . At least you get an " A " for your efforts and the kids will love it !

Thanks everyone. :) I'm sure the kids will like them. I'm just really, really, really tired. I would have done two batches to spread out the madness but I was told there would be a supplies requisition to help me out with the cost.:lol-sign:so I waited until the last minute. Anyway. I can't wait to take pictures today and tomorrow. Today we assemble, tomorrow we decorate. It should be so much fun ! Talk to you later.

Aw, bless your heart! Your going to bring 8 happy memories to 8 happy kids. I remember the one my son made when he was little, he was so proud of that little house. Plus ginger is very healthy for you.

Don't feel like an idiot! You should feel really proud of yourself for volunteering to do that. I've never made a gingerbread house before, and I bet most of the kids there haven't either. They're going to love it I'm sure. :D

I can't wait for the photos. In South Africa it is not traditional and the only "Ginger Bread" houses I know are the real houses in Germany. Please post lots.

I feel all warm & fuzzy inside reading your post. It's love in its best form. So thanks for sharing the love & dedication that you have for your students with us :)

I'm sure the huge smiles on the kids' faces will be the adequate award for such hard work :)

I want gingerbread...

Good luck with this...gingerbread houses are notorious for not going as planned, but it will be fun either way!
