Jayne's only my second experience with watching a neuter heal - I've seen the surgery loads of times, but only the recovery twice. And I don't remember what Ronin's pancake did.

I poked at it.... firm but not too firm. Not warm (i.e. not infected?) and apparently not sensitive. The actual incision is almost completely healed and looks clean and healthy. (He was neutered 7 days ago)

So... what's going on?

And because I'm too embarrassed enough to post a photo of a dog scrotum on a public discussion forum, here's a link:

Could be a bit of swelling or fluid... Lincoln had an empty dangling sac/pancake (though his was probably about 1/5 the size of Jayne's).

Harry's kinda did that, it blew right up bigger than his balls had been originally. Poor boy was a bit sensitive for a while but it wasn't too bad. We checked with the vet and they said it was just fluid and was normal.

Sophie handled her spay better at 12 years old than Harry handled his neuter at 12 months though.

Looks like fluid build up to me. Ozzy's did NOT do that. His shrunk down (neutered at 15 months or so) and now you can't see his. I'd give the vet a call..

I've seen a few dogs go through that, it's just a swollen scrotum. I THINK I've heard that icing it helps, though I've never done that. With the dogs I've seen, we just give it a few days and it heals itself.

Could be fluid. Could be other stuff.

Uh, not to freak you out but it could be like, intestines or something like that. The scrotum isn't sealed off from the abdominal cavity. It's unlikely, but not impossible. From the looks of it, I doubt this is the case though. It seems to 'pool' at the bottom so it's probably a fluid of some such.

Could also just be swelling. You might want to ask your vet, as she'd know better than strangers on a forum.

Gavroche's swelled a little bit, but not that much. He was neutered around 1 year old (not sure, really, since he was a stray...he was more or less an adult though) and 2 1/2 years later he still has a pretty decent sized scrotum. But he was well hung to begin with, too :rofl1:

Smudge's incision looked good. Smudge's sac did swell up and became infected 5ish days post neuter. When I took him back to the vet the tech asked if I was sure I'd neutered him..

First signs of an issue was it went from being a little squidy to being tender to touch. You might want a recheck.

Looks like fluid but I would have it checked just in case. :)

Nice ball sack Jayne.

I was actually planning on doing that - but my vet isn't available at 9pm and I was merely curious if anyone else had seen something like it. I'm calling him this morning. Thanks for the attitude though.

Uh, right. Don't judge my disposition based on text because you've no idea of what tone I was typing that in. I see nothing in my post that's even blatant sarcasm (or sarcasm at all for that matter). Thanks for the attitude though.

Oh and to remove any doubt, that was said with an attitude.

Like other said, it's just fluid. A hassle and a pain but it's nothing serious, unless they get hugely swollen, then check w/your vet :)

To be fair, vet over stranger comment was a little uncalled for.

Um, maybe its just me, but I didn't notice any attitude in GO's post...

He gave you what he thought it could be, and then said it could be a good idea to check with your vet, which I think is a good idea too? Maybe we aren't exactly strangers, but a vet can most certainly give you a better idea.

How is that going by the way? Has the fluid gone away yet?

How was it uncalled for? It's what she should do. How was I to know she already had a vet appointment? It's not mentioned in the OP.
Because, repeated reading of her various posts has called for us (well the more intuitive us) to come to the obvious conclusion that she is a half decent dog owner and knows this.

Also, instead of phrasing your comment in quite a combative way, you could have said that you would be taking him down to the vet or a vet visit was in order. Often, it is not what you say, but how you say it. :)

And if we've not read her posts in the past or don't keep a running tick of who's who?

You realize how many cases get brought in that the dog has had a condition for days, or even weeks? And you sit there and wonder "well why didn't they bring this in sooner?" One has to wonder, well maybe no one told them they should. I skipped that step and suggested she go to a vet. If she had plans to do so already, it seems fairly 'intuitive' that she'd include such in the post. Something like "hey we have a vet appointment for tomorrow but I was wondering what to expect before hand."

Also, instead of phrasing your comment in quite a combative way, you could have said that you would be taking him down to the vet or a vet visit was in order. Often, it is not what you say, but how you say it. :)
Again, she has no way to know how I said it. Doesn't seem to be so much what I said but rather how the other person took it.
